TTS - any recent info on this company? - anon

Does anyone have any recent info on this company? I have been seeing ads for them lately and was thinking of applying. The most recent information I can find on them is from 2008. Any input would be appreciated!

I don't have a severe shortage of work. Where did you get that info? To the OP, there are a lot of posts regarding TTS (especially in 2012 to the present) but most are negative and probably written by the same 10 or so people. TTS has their bad points and good points and are not so different than most MTSOs that people complain about. Make your own judgment.

I have been with TTS for almost 2 years and I stay in work, plus we just heard about a new group of hospitals that will be starting. That is probably why they have jobs ads posted.

I work there and we are swamped and I love it. Judge for yourself. Contact them and see for yourself, otherwise you will never know! Good luck to you.

How much do they pay for straight and how much for VR? Do you get much straight transcription work? Do they count spaces based on a 65-character line? Would appreciate any info. Do you have to work a set schedule?

Lack of work is not usually the problem there. You must strictly adhere to your schedule. If your hands leave the keyboard or you don't use your foot pedal for 4 minutes, that time is deducted from your log-in time. Pay depends on platform and acct. They have Escription and Dictaphone. Dictphone side pays more, but the Escription Team Leader is a lot nicer than the one on Dictaphone.

Had a phone interview with the recruiter - says you guys can edit up to 400-500+ lines per hour - the rate seemed low per line...is that really possible to do that much editing? He said the work is pretty much all VR.

What are the good and bad points with this company? Had a phone interview today and am considering them. Recruiter also told me they can edit up to 400+ lines an hour in VR. Anything bad I should know?

I got that same line from one of the trainers when I was learning SR; but because I wasn't born yesterday, I told her I didn't believe her, which kind of surprised her. It took me about 2 months to get to their minimum LPH which is 250 during which time I was being threatened with being let go. (I had never done SR before, and it's a new skill you have to learn.) The threats stressed me out so much, I was ready to throw in the towel. When will they learn that threats are counterproductive? Realistically, 250 or more is doable based on whether or not you get good documents to edit and how familiar you are with the work types/account. As an example, the other day for the first 2 hours, I had excellent dictators requiring minimum editing; and my LPH average was 497 BUT the rest of the day not so good dictators. My average for that day finished at 363 LPH. This day was an exception though, as I usually average between 250 and 325. Keep in mind, though, you have to maintain your QA score above 98% which I do. Also, a lot depends on whether you are familiar with their SR platform and how much experience you have as an MT. In addition, if you were a speedy straight MT before (I am average), your editing pay may be the same or less than you made doing straight MT. As to your question about the amount of SR, it is about 99.9% of the work, unless you are training a new account that will eventually go to full SR. You need to ask about that. A few other pluses are I rarely run out of work, and I think their health insurance is affordable. Their line rate may be a little lower than most, but you have to weigh in the fact that you will always have work. So, all in all, I am still there going on almost 2 years. I stuck it out, and I'm not sorry I did. Just don't expect to make much money at the beginning.

I appreciate everyone's input. I did accept the position and start Monday. I will be on the Dictaphone SR side on a hospital account. I have been doing editing for over a year now so I feel pretty comfortable with that.

I read the posts below on the difference between an IC and an employee. However, in applying to what was reported to be a "good company to work for" recently, I was told of the schedule I needed to be "willing" to work, as well as the rate I would paid, even though I thought it was low. I looked but do not really find much current info for this company. They "seem" pretty liget with basic line requirements, decent pay for VR, good benefits, ect. Get paid not so well for VR work on time with small PTO paid for part-time, but accounts have chunks of good work suddenly removed from the queue as I am working and older, undesirable work left for "me," and am very disappointed.
