Probity Transcription - Had bad situation 2-1/2 years ago with them - jac
Posted: Mar 31, 2011
See they have new ad. Had bad situation 2-1/2 years ago with them. Accepted a job as a CMT with $50 CMT sign-on bonus and no training pay. Told very few foreign accents on my job. After training, got straight foreign accents for 2 days and boss said nothing was wrong. Having been a QA editor for 5-1/2 years, I knew someone had picked out all the good plain-old American-type voices because the foreign accent guys don't all dictate at the same time with nothing in-between. Their QA editors (my trainer) were able to assign jobs and my trainer said she was helping with transcription on those days and it looked like she assigned herself all the good dictators. I don't do well with too many foreign dictators at one time and I will do my share, but I am not doing all of them by myself. I have 31 years of acute care/clinic experience. Then my paycheck was late and they sent it in the mail by accident. I opened the solid envelope and my eyes went down to read the pay stub and I reazlied it didn't look right. Then I noted the $50 training pay. What? It was Saturday and I realized I had someone else's check that had been put in my envelope to my house. Where was my check, as I had to pay rent? I contacted several people by email, QA, supervisor, human resources, but only my editor was there. So, I emailed the poor lady whose check I had and we talked. She said she did not get my check. My check showed up days later instead of auto-deposit that previous Friday. She said she was new, but not a CMT and yes, she did get $50 training pay. So, Probity was also commiting what seemed like a crime to me by misrepresenting the CMT bonus and telling me there was NO training pay. I was mad. I contacted the head honcho, the CEO, and he then tried to cover his butt by saying I violated confidentiality. I kindly reminded him that he was the one who sent this lady's check to my house and thinking it was MY check, I opened it. They had alleged fraudulent advertising that led me into the job and I specifically asked if they had training pay and was told NO. They were simply substituting the CMT bonus for training pay and a CMT bonus is given for our effort to get that credential, i.e. the word bonus, not substitution. He was being a cheapskate and didn't want to pay me for both and was surprised that he got caught. Other companies would never dream of doing that. While he was going to actually try to tell me to get lost for the breach of confidentiality, I again reminded him that THEY created the breach, not me and that I was the one to tell them to get lost in a very polite manner. He commented that nobody else had been that nice and after my shock, I could only imagine what they had done to others. They told me the word Probity stood for integrity. Where was their integrity and what a disappointment? I gave up 2 other job offers for this one and I had to start all over again. Everything else about the company seemed very professional. So, hope this helps.

"Other companies would never dream of doing that."
Don't be so sure.
Probity stands for... Well, they stick it to people don't they? You can figure it out!

So I Left Transcription Two Years Ago. Got Laid Off From May 20, 2014a hospital job after being a model employee for 5 years because of outsourcing. Disillusioned, I decided I was done and took a job as a unit secretary at a hospital "in the city." Pay was the same and I thought it would be a nice change, you know a little daily human interaction. WRONG! After dealing with nonstop ringing phones, call lights, pesky patients and family, hateful nurses, and condescending doctors on a daily basis, I was ready to run back to my home office for ...

After Years And Years Of Being IC, Obtained Employee Status At A Co. Sm Nov 26, 2012Thought that after not having enough work for a couple years now and always chasing work, I'd now have a "real job" as an employee and wouldn't have to worry about a steady paycheck and paying the bills anymore.
The reason I thought this was because at the interview and in their professional company emails, they use all the "real job" words: Shift, scheduled hours, overtime, PTO, benefits, etc. I felt relieved to finally have a "job."
What a big bunch of BS! I was "hired" ...
3 Years. Question: How Many More Years Do You Plan To Be An MT/editor? Dec 20, 2013There is much speculation about the field of transcription - how many of us actually plan to be here 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now. I realize that the field is going to change, which will contribute to your answer. Will there be enough transcriptionists/editors to fill the need in 5 years and in 10 years? Will the industry be forced out of offshoring because of taxes? Will there be a need even for editors if VR gets better? These are all unanswered questions, but my question is, what ...
No-win Situation Nov 22, 2010I've been a transcriptionist for 29 years, the last 14 of which have been working from home. My husband used to always carry me on his insurance but he lost his job (the plant closed down where he worked) and he has subsequently gone on disability. He's 62, and is soon to be on Medicare. I need insurance in a bad way, but I've tried and I just can't maintain 150 lines an hour. I manage between 125-150. I think holding us to a quota like ...
Bad, Bad Situation Dec 23, 2012I expect to get flamed or slammed here, but I have a question. Is there anyone else on this board that works for the measily 7 cpl for straight typing and if so, how in heck do you survive? I am a pretty fast typist and I use a word expander, but I find it almost impossible to make any kind of a living from this now. The last MTSO I worked for the hospital decided to go with the Q and I did find another MTSO to work for, but for 30% less than what I was making before. I have been an MT for 1 ...

I Worked For M*Modal A Couple Of Years Ago Or So And I Worked For Medquist Several Years Ago. This No Work Situation Is Getting To Me. Am I The Only Dec 21, 2011one out here with nothing most of the time? I filed for partial unemployment but I really don't know what that is going to do for me yet. Very Discouraged About Job Situation. Jan 26, 2012I have been in business for 30 years and I have never seen things this bad. I am currently out of work, after having steady work for the last 5 or 6 years. This is new for me and after applying for several companies and no response, I am very discouraged. I guess all we can do is pray for a miracle at this point. ...
Coping With NSA Situation Aug 07, 2012How are you all coping with this NSA crap? Giving up Friday evenings to try to make up hours is just not always possible. Hypothetical Situation Feb 19, 2014Let's say for a moment you get this kind of exchange:
TSM: When will be making up the time you missed from your appointment? (note, MT was lying, this was really an interview for a job that didn't pan out)
MT: I won't be. To be honest, I don't really like this line of work at all, my motivations are being here are strictly financial. Your company is just a stepping stone, a crutch, until I can find something that can get me out of this dying industry.

Need Suggestions About Work Situation Jan 01, 2010I am an IC with a small MTSO and have been working there since the end of October. My training was a total of 30 minutes maybe. I have to ask questions to the office manager who is not a transcriptionist and passes information on to another MT. She does not un ...

Same Situation, Past Coder Aug 28, 2011Hi,
I am in the same situation for being a past coder. I coded for about 10 years and then did transcription to raise my family. Now I would very much like to pursue the coding field and get certified. My schedule limits me from taking outside classes as I am working all different hours part time. Is there anything decent that would help me refresh my skills and update them on line in order to pass the certification exam down the road or is that totally out of the questi ...
