Patient First Transcription - Anyone work for them? - Looking

Posted: Oct 22, 2011

Anyone work for them?  I understand they have an unconventional way of wanting their transcription done and you have to use a C-phone.  Can you make a living?   Feel free to e-mail if you prefer.  Thanks...

They use mostly abbreviations to the point it looks like shorthand. sm - Broke

I worked on their account when the company I work for had them. They actually dropped them as a customer because it was so ridiculous. It was like transcribing with your expander but not getting the expanded text as a count. Example: Pt in for fu ov w hyt and db. Not only did you have to remember all the abbreviations, but they kept adding more.

They were an account for your MTSO? - Looking

[ In Reply To ..]
I thought they hired their own transcriptionists (now from home as well)...

They used to outsource a lot of it until that MTSO canceled them. sm - Broke

The abbreviations were a nightmare and the work came in waves, so it was too sporadic. I used to feel sorry for my manager.

Let's be truthful... - I work there -

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, we use abbreviations but not to the extreme your post suggests. I have worked there for years and not much has been added to the list. You get used to them and I catch myself using them in e-mails. I have the same group of doctors every day and a lot of canned text entries. Sorry you had such a bad experience with your MTSO. I do not have anything negative to say about PF. I love it there.

I didn't have a bad experience with my MTSO, I had a bad experience with the account. sm - Broke

The account started out great but gradually got worse over time due to the abbreviations. I use my expander for EVERYTHING, so it really cut my production to use the abbreviations. The other complaint, which would probably not matter in house, is that the work did not come in on a regular basis; it was feast or famine. We would have no work for days and then we would get a ton of centers and have to get them done quickly. It was also very seasonal. That was probably just what they were sending to the MTSO, so if you are PF's employee, that probably wouldn't affect you.

It was a nice account until the abbreviations got crazy, and if you do not use your expander for most words and phrases, it probably would not affect you as negatively as it did me.

Good luck with applying; an in-house job is almost always better than an MTSO, especially if you work at home for them. Go for it!

Looking - re C-phone - Old Pro

[ In Reply To ..]
C-phones are pretty outdated. And you need unlimited minutes or you get an exhorbitant phone bill. Do what you want, but I would pass on this one if it were me.

That bad, huh? - Looking

[ In Reply To ..]
I knew it was "old school," but you think it's a deal breaker? Even if they're paying by 50-character line including spaces?

Looking - Old Pro

[ In Reply To ..]
Well, I cannot speak for anybody else, but for me, it would absolutely be a deal breaker.
Used a C-phone about 4 years ago ... - sm

Had to switch to Vonage for unlimited minutes. Vonage declared my usage excessive and upped my bill to $60/month, ''business class''. It was still the cheapest service of all providers. A drawback with Vonage phone service was that, like clockwork, every 4 hours, the phone would disconnect (including in the middle of reports) and it would be necessary to dial back in. This is my experience with C-phone -- quite a hassle.
What about cable? - Looking

C-Phone - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I use Comcast, and it has unlimited long distance for $40. Have never had any problem with it, and I have several friends that live out of state, not to mention in the country area I live in a lot of numbers in the closest big city are also long distance. I am looking to get rid of this C-phone. It works terrific. Only worked for the company for a little while (God awful management -even being yelled at via email). Somehow got stuck with the C-phone. IT has a good pedal and everything. Can look up instructions for programming on the internet. If you're interested you can contact me here or through an email.
Thanks but... - Looking

...if I'm offered the job and accept, they provide all the equipment.

50 characters a line w/spaces is good but - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
when it's all abbreviations, you won't make any money as the characters just aren't there, if that makes sense? Good luck to you whatever you decide :)

PF is not an MTSO - private company with clinics and urgent care. - Wonderful company

[ In Reply To ..]
It is difficult to get hired - they only hire the best of the best MTs, who do work at home and are employees. They do outsource to some MTSOs because volume is so high. They do use a lot of abbreviations but provide wonderful training and everyone who is fortunate enough to be hired by the company loves their jobs.

Thanks for all the feedback. nm - Looking

I had very odd communication with them... HR seemed confused. - wordZMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I tested for them and wordZXpressed around the same time when I was job hunting. The HR guy at PF told me to call him back in about a week after testing if I did not hear back from him. After a 1-1/2 weeks of not hearing back, I called him. He looked through his emails and told me I was 1 of only 5 that passed the test in the past 6 months (It is a very hard test!)

I was elated to hear that, and he told me that, although they didn't have openings at the moment, to check back frequently since they open clinics very often. In the meantime, I passed the wordZ test and they were hiring, so I took a job with them.

A month or so later, I checked back with him to see if they had openings, and he told me they did and to apply for it. I got an odd automated reply e-mail after applying which looked like I needed to take the test again. I called him back, got a runaround, and he then informed me that I had NOT passed the test and went into a bunch of jibberish about needing more experience, etc. How do you get THAT mixed up about whether or not someone passes your test. Honestly, every single email or phone encounter I had with this guy was totally off balance and confusing. If this is any indication of how they run their company, I would never want to be a part of it...

I'm not telling you to not take the job, if offered. This is just my opinion and personal experience with them. Just saying.....

How long ago was that?
Back in June/July - wordZMT

I'm thankful, really, that it didn't work out with them, as I'm very happy to be at wordZ and plan to stay with them for as long as they will have me! :)
Dear Looking, - Happy MT

PF is the brass ring that most MTs on this board are chasing. Their starting pay for newbies is over 9 cpl/65-char line with straight typing - no VR! If hired, you are assigned to a single center and spend the rest of your days listening to the same group of providers, or you can branch out to other centers if you would like to change things up a bit. Their base pay while training is well over the minimum wage, and that pay is also provided for any downtime that occurs on their end. The team leaders, management, and QA are friendly and only criticize in a kind and constructive way. We never run out of work, equipment is provided, benefits are affordable, and the schedule is flexible.
Bottom Line: PF is a great company to work for IF you can get in. Good luck Looking!
Thank you. - nm - Looking

Warning for MTs interested in Patient First Transcription.   Beware...  This is a very difficult company to work for.  First, the platform is extremely difficult as it is working in DOS.  Second, the management team is extremely critical and not employee friendly.  They do not give constructive feedback, again, very critical, even during training period.  Hours are in dispute constantly.   In short, really think about working on a DOS-based system (lines decrea ...

Patient First Transcription - Have Some Questions
Jun 22, 2013

I am looking into this company and have some questions.  This seems to be a direct for provider job, which I would prefer is this correct?  How extensive are their account specifics?  Are they in line with the BOS?  Do they have a specific platform they use?  Do they have part time work available?  I am nervous having been burned by MTSOs before so I am hesitant to apply at bigger companies.   ...
