My Probity Experience sm - Old Tyme MT

Posted: Mar 04, 2013

I got hired at Probity. I managed to last 13 days. I've got 30 years of experience as an MT and thought it would be a breeze. The account specs weren't the problem - but the dictators were horrible. One after another ESLs that I could hardly understand, lots of googling to find Dr and hospital names, and somehow when they count lines, it seemed really low (maybe they weren't counting headers and footers). You weren't supposed to make full sentences and I got gigged for expanding abbreviations. Some QA were nice, others were b-words. QA was also inconsistent.  I was busting my butt to make about a third of what I'm accustomed to making. QA got mad if I didn't get a word right, but if I sent something to them, they got mad. So if you like to pound your head against the wall and make barely minimum wage, I say go for it!

I think you just described all MTSOs in a nutshell! - Scamming, abusive, dishonest sweatshops. nm

I really object - Old Pro

to the vituperative, unkind generalization about MTSOs. It is unfair, unkind, and inappropriate. Some of us really tried hard and worked hard to support our MTs. We, too, were eaten alive by places like MedQuist. Please don't forget about us. Some MTSOs do (did) wear white hats!

Not for nothing but 30 years experience does not mean - anything these days. Could be

you are still looking at this as you did 30 years ago. That's so not the case. Of course you would be dinged for expanding abbreviations if not specifically told to. I believe they call that line padding. As far as ESL and crappy voice files, welcome to transcription 30 years LATER. Good luck to you.

ESL and seasoned MT's - Seasoned MT

I do believe my 30 years MT experience plays a large role in what work type I'm offered. Less experienced MT's are given less taxing work, and us "seasoned" MT's are given the lion's share of crap work. I've heard enough ESL dictators to know what I'm doing, but when their dictation sucks, experience or not, it's not fun.

I don't line pad ...I expand abbreviations in diagnoses and where it helps clarify the report. I do follow the wishes of the employer.

ESL was around 30 years ago too kiddos...we've just been dealing with it longer.

Strange but I've had exactly the opposite experience - Boostedmom

I've been with Probity for almost 4 months and am cautiously overjoyed to be here. After working for both biggies and in between a smaller company, finding Probity makes me feel like the good old days. Pay is more than fair, lots of work, and everyone has been nothing but nice. Sure there are crappy dictators but you're going to find that everywhere. I can only hope that things stay as they are here, but I take it one day at a time...

ESLs come with the job. I've only been doing this - 10 yrs and I dont have

[ In Reply To ..]
a problem with them. Of course some are better or worse than others, but it really is part of the job and no matter where you go, you will have them.

Yes, ESLs do come with the job! - Old Pro

I was once the lead MT for an account that was a large, mostly Chinese staffed hospital here in California. I did not mind the ESLs nearly as much as the American guy who insisted on eating carrots and celery while he dictated.:)

I totally agree with all you said. I worked with them for three months. Horrible. Just know you are not alone in your opinions. Enough said. :-)

regarding ESLs on Probity - Old Tyme MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I do realized ESLs and bad dictators are everywhere. But it seemed like every single doctor I was getting was really REALLY bad. And no I didn't pad lines - I worked for another MTSO a while back and they wanted everything expanded so that was what I was used to. I have one account currently where the doctor eats, yells in Spanish to other people in the room, and adds things to previous dictations already finalized constantly. He was not a 10th as bad as the best of these dictators.

Probity used to want everything expanded - but that was several years ago

I only lasted with them for a couple of months but I was much greener then, so who knows if I would have found the experience different. I was on their big rehab hospital account and working at night. They wanted to make sure I never ran out of work, so I had 20 hospitals feeding in to my queue at night. I never ran out of work, but I never had the same dictator twice, either. And yes, they were 99% ESL and I know that comes with the job, but man, some of these guys sounded fresh off the boat.

They are almost all ESL and most all are bad. - see message

Plus they have everyone on multiple accounts. I have worked there several years and do not go without new dictators every day. Never do you get proficient. Also, they do want almost everything expanded. Lots of progress notes that they assign to your queue. I don't know who gets the longer H&Ps and consults, but if they assign work (which they like to do), it is going to be a progress note most likely and most probably ESL. They seem to be hospitalists primarily who dictate. For anyone who says they prefer ESL to mushmouth Americans, try their ESL and you may rethink that.

I'm looking for another job but looking at places that do not advertise all the time. My experience has been that these places that advertise often are easy to get a job with, but they are hiring because they are lousy places to work. They have the same accounts. So a high turnover would be why they advertise.

This is my opinion.

Polar opposite for me - sm

I've been with Probity for a year now. I've worked for three other companies, including one that was bought out by MQ, and was ready to give up entirely on MT. Probity has been amazing. Their pay is far better than any other company I've worked for, they still do transcription (I personally despise SR), everyone has been exceptionally kind and understanding and helpful. Yes, there are a lot of ESLs, but most of them aren't too bad. There are some that are impossible, but that comes with the territory of transcription. For what it's worth, I almost didn't take this job because of the negative comments I got on here. So glad I gave it a try.

I was beginning to think I was the only one - Boostedmom

I was beginning to think I was the only one who liked this company. I just hope they don't shove VR down our throats.

I was begining to think.... - FormerMT

I shudder to think of all the people who will now be beating down the Probity door as you have stated the pay is great and the people are nice and the account is great, don't worry about SR worry about NJA because now with all this praise you are sure to have people beating down the door to get a your job, ahern a job

Probity?
Jun 06, 2013

I received an offer from Probity and have read some posts on the board.  I am looking for current information from anyone currently working for or have worked for Probity in the past six months, pros and cons.  From reading through the paperwork, it seems like you are given a short time to be up and running and must know the account specs with 4 days, which kind of makes me nervous as to what I am getting myself into. I am looking to work set hours as opposed to constantly checking th ...

Job Offer For Probity
Aug 09, 2011

I just had a job offer for Probity.  I am considering it, but before I accepted I emailed them with a question about if there is steady work and still have had no response.  I am on unemployment benefits, so if I take their job and then there is not steady work and if I have to quit, I cannot get my benefits back.  So, it's a delicate decision.  Is anyone working for them who can tell me anything about them....good or bad?  Thank you. ...
