If a company has provided you with equipment, when you quit, sm - Nervous MT

do they hold your final check until they receive the equipment? My payday is supposed to be Friday and they were supposed to send me the tags to send back the equipment, but I have not received them yet, and I am thinking I will maybe not be paid on Friday if they have not received the equipment. TIA

No, they won't hold your last paycheck, surprisingly. I thought they might too, but I'm still waiting for a box to send my PCU back, got the tags about a week or so after I left, still waiting for the box 3 weeks later...
I worked for a company that did hold final pay - until they received their equipment back.

Different companies have different policies. Sorry, but if you don't name the company, there is no way anyone can answer your question.
It is Synernet. I could just call HR but I honestly hope to have nothing nm - more to do with them ever

DC is an absolute witch when it comes to returning equipment - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
She will claim they did not get it and then (I got an attorney and that scared her) she admitted they had it. I was told by her my pay would be withheld or they would take further action. That is when I got an attorney. She is a real chicken BLEEP!
She told me they would send Fed Ex tags -- I would think that sm - Nervous MT

would prove tracking information that proved they had it. You're scaring me now. My pay is pitiful but I would like to have it. Thanks for sharing.
DC is not a witch. She has always been very helpful - MT

and polite to me when I've had a question or problem. You should call her again to see what the problem is and ask her about your paycheck. I think whoever had trouble with her says more about them than her. Just my experience.

glad to be gone. I merely asked if anyone had any experience with this. Obviously, the other poster had a bad experience and I certainly hope mine is not a bad one as well. I'm still waiting to receive the paperwork she promised so I could ship the equipment back, although I'd be happy to send it back on my own. I just do not want my check held up. As small and pitiful as it is, I need it.
Fed Ex Tags - sm

They will send a Fed Ex label. If you return the equipment another way, it can't be tracked. Tags arrive about a week after your last day. They won't attach your pay as it's illegal.
That is a relief -- thank you. I figured since you had something of their property, sm - Nervous MT

they were within their rights to hold your pay as collateral (or whatever the word is that I want) until they got their equipment back. With rent due soon and a few unexpected expenses, it would cause a hardship if I had to wait until they received it.
Maine state law says they must pay you on the next pay date sm - HTH

after your termination. There is no exclusion that I could see that they could make you wait until they receive their equipment. That being said, I think I would just send it back to them with a tracking number and be done with it. Why they think anyone could want to keep that clunky old Thin Client is beyond me. I am thinking of leaving too, so I have done a little research into the laws. Good luck.

happy for quite awhile. I try not to badmouth my former employers, so I probably should just leave it at that. Things changed, and not for the better, at least not for me, and I got tired of being miserable every day, dreading the time I had to punch in and start my shift. We spend too much time at our jobs to stay at something that makes us feel rotten, at least that's my opinion.

Large Company Sending Your Equipment Next Day Nov 23, 2010Does anyone know of a legal recourse for work injuries caused by company equipment? A market leader, at-the-time generous transcription company sent me an old fashioned monitor, which after years of looking at it caused ocular saccades (lateral jitter of eyes). Also, they downgraded to cheap earphones with a solenoid in them that thumped, decreasing hearing permanently, evidently, in the solenoid fitted side of the headset.

Trouble With MQ Regarding Equipment Oct 12, 2009Hi everyone. I am having trouble with MQ regarding equipment and I'm hoping someone could maybe help me out here.

The returned equipment was returned over a year ago and I no longer have the receipt from UPS, as I never heard anything and had no reason to think there was a problem.

ADVISE ON EQUIPMENT Sep 17, 2010Hello,
Can someone please tell me the best digital transcription machine to buy. I really do not know anything about digital transcribers. I am used to the cassette transcriber. Also, I heard there was a way to have a 1-800 number and the doctor can call that number and do the dictation over voicemail. Does that require any other software or equipment. I am not familiar with any of this. I guess I just really need to know the different ways I can do transcription. Thanks ...
