trouble with MQ regarding equipment - mimtt

Posted: Oct 12, 2009

Hi everyone. I am having trouble with MQ regarding equipment and I'm hoping someone could maybe help me out here. I used to work for MQ and had returned my equipment after leaving. I was re-hired a few months later, but used my own equipment, therefore, never took anything back or received anything from them again. The returned equipment was returned over a year ago and I no longer have the receipt from UPS, as I never heard anything and had no reason to think there was a problem. Anyways....I just got a letter from MQ stating I need to return their equipment immediately or will suffer legal consequences and bad references from them if needed in the future, etc. I already notified them that the equipment I had in the past had been returned, but it was well over a year ago and I no longer had any "proof" of it. I don't know what to do now! I don't have anything of theirs, and they insist I do. Does anyone know if they actually will pursue this in court?? If they don't or won't, I would just ignore their letters, but I really don't want trouble to come from them. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I never had equipment from Medquist either. I quit in August and they have sent me papers to return their equipment. They called last week, but I missed the call and was unable to figure out how to direct my call in order to get in touch with them. You would think they would know if they sent equipment or not. I keep expecting a legal letter. I know when I quit my supervisor said she was going to send in a form that they have to fill out about equipment. I informed her I didn't had any, but I bet she never read that. DUH! Just another thing to waste my time on.

I wouldn't worry--they wait a year to tell you?

For others for future reference: I left MQ in July and saved everything, tracked it on the Internet and printed out the receipt that they had received it. I plan on keeping it for at least a year. I also sent an e-mail to my ex-supervisor stating I had the receipt, etc., that it had been received by MQ. I figure that e-mail is my proof.

Equipment - hope to be gone soon

I had MedQuist equipment, but when my pay went from an average of $22 an hour before ASR to less than $15 an hour, I bought a new computer, turned in my equipment and got a second job - at home but not MT.

Fortunately, I put the copy of the packing slip on my bulletin board with the tracking number. Sure enough, a few weeks later I got several calls and a letter from the Q demanding the equipment. I checked the tracking number and 'lo and behold, they received it. I gave them the name of the person who signed for it along with the tracking number and they sent me an e.mail thanking me for returning it. They're just so screwed up, they don't have a clue what they're doing. I'll never throw away the packing slip or the tracking number because some "brain" will probably send me another nasty letter demanding I return their equipment when I quit.

By the way, they pay more in postage to ship the box and then pay for you to ship it back than the computer is worth!

Their computers are a piece of garbage and probably worth less than $25.00, so I wouldn't worry about a lawsuit. They can't be THAT stupid. But again...

What kind of work did you end up doing? - curious

Second job - hope to be gone soon

[ In Reply To ..]
Second job as a proofreader for a publisher of medical articles. It's interesting, very technical, but educational. I have to look up a lot of stuff, but some of it I know from being MT for 20+ years. They're keeping me pretty busy part-time and contrary to MME here, they complement me on my work. I hope to be able to get more work from them and leave the Q completely. Fingers crossed.
Second job - I'm such a dork! - hope to be gone soon

in above post, meant "compliment" not "complement." Just did immunology report - I've been doing this too long.

I had this happen to me when I quit Spheris almost 3 years ago. About 6 months after I returned the equipment, they started sending me letters that I had not returned it and they would pursue legal action. Of course, 6 months later, I no longer had the packing slip. They haven't sued me yet. Also, if they really don't receive equipment back, they are able to write it off for tax purposes.

You didn't state as to whether they think you received the equipment this go-around or the last go-around. If they think you received it this go-around, I would tell them that I didn't have anything and ask them to provide proof on their end that they did ship something to you.

If they're claiming you never returned the equipment from the previous go-around, I would tell them that you most certainly did and why would MQ hire back someone who "stole" equipment from them. Also, I'm sure since you had to download the DQS platform on your personal computer that tech support could verify that you'd been using your own computer, not theirs.

Good luck. I wouldn't put anything past MQ.

Mt Equipment
Apr 13, 2011

I have been doing outpatient surgery reports for a small hospital for four years.  They are outsourcing with a company that does voice recognition.  The ophthalmologist has talked to the OR manager and wants to use me for some other transcription (the hospital pays for what he does there).  I need to know the cheapest and best route to go since I only have computers, printers, and an Infinity foot pedal, as well as two transcribers that use microcassette tapes.  In order to p ...

All This Equipment We Have To Buy
Feb 16, 2014

why do they keep gouging us for this crap even though it should be painfully obvious to anyone with half a brain that your average MT has hardly any money for it? Amphion had told me that my workstation was not up to snuff, and after they specified what I needed, they told me *where to buy it*. I ended up sinking almost 300 bucks into it. Then, after working there for a couple weeks, they micromanaged me intensely, and after a performance review where I missed the mark by probably about a fra ...

Transcription Equipment

Hello.  I am looking for advice on equipment.  I need, well, almost everything,  I need a playback program, I don't like express scribe.  I am willing to spend money, I don't have a lot, but I want something good.  It doesn't have to be the best, but user friendly would be nice.  I also need a footpedal.  I have heard they are all the same, but I would like further input to the statement.  And, I must have a good pair of head phones.  ...

Returning Equipment To MQ
Apr 29, 2010

Recently resigned from MQ and received the mailing labels to ship back their computer and monitor.  However, per the letter, they don't require that you return the mouse, keyboard, and any other peripherals.  It doesn't say you will be charged for them -- it just says they want the computer and monitor. Has anyone left MQ and kept the keyboard and mouse?     ...

Equipment Meltdown - Help!

ADVISE ON EQUIPMENT
Sep 17, 2010

Hello, Can someone please tell me the best digital transcription machine to buy. I really do not know anything about digital transcribers. I am used to the cassette transcriber. Also, I heard there was a way to have a 1-800 number and the doctor can call that number and do the dictation over voicemail. Does that require any other software or equipment. I am not familiar with any of this. I guess I just really need to know the different ways I can do transcription. Thanks ...

Stenoscriptionist--same As MT With Different Equipment?
