I understand you could use the extra cash, but - thats why MTSOs like this get

away with this type of thing. If everyone started taking jobs for 3cpl, then other companies may decide to follow in their footsteps.
More power to you. Hope you make the extra money you need.
Meaning why pay more, when you can get them to - work for less? I take it you have

take a position for 3 cpl? We ALL chose this line of work...I happen to love what I do and believe it or not, would do it regardless of pay. Sure I would want to get paid, but that's not my point. In the end, you have to love what you do, and if you don't, well then you'll be miserable no matter what.
smeeps - I personally dont care where you work. - I was commenting on their

pay of 3cpl and you responded. Thats your business where you work.
I don't know if you got your point across or - not. This is not SM
[ In Reply To ..]
directed at smeeps, but at the whole "work at home as an MT" matchbook mess that was the beginning of the end of MT as a career, now being only a sometimes minimal wage job (not career). Combined with offshoring and now VR, the people who will accept lower and lower wages are bringing us down even more. They apparently don't have to support themselves or their children on their own, accept 3 cpl, and the companies just keep going lower and lower because there are actually people who will work for this. I'm trying to think of another profession where this could happen and I can't off the top of my head. I guess I can compare this to the companies who hire illegals and pay them less, but even that is not exactly the same thing. If only we had unionized years ago,we might have a fighting chance now. Sorry, but I get angry at people who have done this to our profession and our careers.
DITTO to SM. That was my point exactly, but - she took it as an insult.
[ In Reply To ..]
I was not trying to judge her, but the fact of the matter is if one or two or even three companies can get people to work for 3cpl in this industry then of course the other MTSOs will see no need to raise the rates.
People who take jobs for 3cpl put the other MTs at risk. I dont want my company to just up and decide "Hey why are we paying her xyz per line when we can get someone else to do it for 3?"
Thats my point. People who accept such low pay put the rest of us in jeopardy.
I mean truthfully if she wants to work for a low wage thats her business, but keep in mind, that in some form or fashion if too many take on this mindset, we will really be screwed.
Thank you and thank you ICManiac for speaking up. I was not trying to insult smeeps.
Like the old saying goes "you get what you pay for" - MTs at TTD inc will be working so
[ In Reply To ..]
hard to compensate for that 3cpl that the quality will suffer and eventually they will begin to lose accounts.
If they cant afford to pay their MTs any better than that, then they need to close shop.
not to stir the pot, but you raised a point - ICManiac
[ In Reply To ..]
So you said you love what you do and would do it regardless of the pay.
Would you do it for 2 cpl? Would you do it for 1.5 cpl? I don't imagine you would be willing to do it for free?
I really am not beating on you. I'm hoping to make a point. I have done 3 cpl in my past and found out very quickly I cannot make a living on it. Well, I could because I was living rent free in my momma's house. But when I was ready to move out and live on my own, I realized I was averaging $8/hour (or 16K a year working full time) and there is no living in a 2 BR apt and supporting my own family on that kind of money.
A lot of people think 3 cpl is okay because they have someone else to help them financially. And that line of thought is why so many MTs cannot live indepently on what they are earning. The *only* reason I took that money when I did was because it was an in-office job with benefits. I lasted 6 months, quit, and found an MT position where I continue to earn over 40k a year. You can be happy and earn a decent living at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive.
Never for free, take pride in what I do... - smeeps

and to pay an average of 20% tax on 3 cpl - TheMan
[ In Reply To ..]
That means you might clear 2.4 cpl. Or if you are IC and you expect to put some of that money in an IRA, say 20% of that 3 cpl, you would clear 1.8 cpl. If you produce 3000 lines per week, at the end of the year, you have given Uncle Sam/your state $936, you saved $936 for your retirement and you got to use $2808 during the year.
Food for thought.
Couldn't hurt. - me
[ In Reply To ..]
That's just it, it not only COULD hurt, it DOES hurt. When an MT says, fine I'll take 3 cpl they are essentially saying to the company, "Abuse me, and I'll thank you for it."
So your supplementation means, TTD thinks that wage is worthy of the expertise an MT brings to the table.
Could hurt. Does hurt.
It's companies like TTD INC. that makes things - even worse in this industry.

whether the name is TTD INC or others, - 3 cpl does not pay minimum wage
[ In Reply To ..]
I really do feel for smeeps, really I do, but waving the cancer flag to garner justification of accepting low wages is no way to garner my support. I live w/o health insurance (and issues, oh yes, I do have). I support a child with 10 years more of public school education without anyone's else's support. I live without another single soul supporting me or my child, and I have not lived with the luxury of health insurance or someone else's financial/emotional support. You would be surprised of the dire circumstances I have lived in the last 9 years.
If anyone looks at the role of "old timers" in this industry, there are a greater number in this category than those entering. And for that reason, MTSOs claim MT is a dying breed on US soil. The 3 cpl offered on US soil is bartered down to 1 cpl on foreign soil. I am one of those. I tell one of my prviate accounts he cannot retire until AT Least my child graduates from high school as he and I are the same age. No doubt I paid my dues; no doubt I pay them still. No doubt those who enter this field feel they are paying theirs. But I never sold my soul and I encourage those entering the field not to dot that to their own.
When did it become acceptable to work time and a half to earn minimum wage? Or less?
Is 3 cpl really what we expect those entering the fielf to settle for? The very industry we support fought for minimum wage from the Dept of Education but they do not procure that funding (or DO they) for new students? Really and truly, if anyone, and I mean ANYONE works for less than minimum wage, PLEASE ask these questions. Where DO those supplements go? WHY do you not get them?
Your self worth should never be marketable. You set the standard. Do not settle for less than poverty wages just because. The because being ____ (fill in your blank).
my apology - 3 cpl does not pay minimum wage
[ In Reply To ..]
If you thought the comment about the flag was rude, I apologize. It did seem to me from your prior post that you had used it as your justification in having accepted a job paying less than minimum wage. I cannot imagine what you have gone through. But please don't sell yourself short for that or any other reason.
Would it please you all if I didn't take the job - smeeps
[ In Reply To ..]
seriously.....this is ridiculous...let's beat up on someone because they took a job...don't say that I don't understand situations that you are all in(most of you)...I may not have been in them personally, but I have had hard times, believe me. I understand more than you know. And as for that cancer flag comment, that was just rude and uncalled for.
frankly, yes - me
[ In Reply To ..]
It would please me if you didn't take the job, because you would show me you have dignity, principles, a belief in your skills, and awareness of the plight of MTs in whole. So yes, it would please me. If no one takes the jobs, the companies will have to begin to pay higher wages in order to attract the talent. You've essentially squashed that again by saying "Sure, I'd LOVE to have your lousy 3 cpl."
It would please me as well if you said to them - I cannot accept SM
[ In Reply To ..]
the job because I expect a living wage for the skills that I offer. Are there no other companies offering what you are looking for as far as part time? It would please me if all of us said no to these ridiculously low wages.

The issue is that people like you drive wages down. No one cares about your personal situation, where you work, or whether or not you ''love'' your work. By accepting a ridiculous 3 cpl, you have helped to further drive wages down.

I will try it and if it isn't worth it I will stop. I gotta do what I gotta do and out of the jobs I applied for part time this was the only one to respond so some extra is better than none!!

No one forced Smeeps to post on a thread that VERY CLEARLY is disgusted with the rate of 3cpl. This is an interactive forum. You put it out there, it's fair game for debate whether you like it or not. No one is being cruel or insensitive unless perhaps it IS Smeeps given she doesn't seem to care about the insensitivity to MT wages by accepting such a low rate. It harms all of us.
I started my first post by saying this was not - directed to her SM

specifically. I wanted to get the point across that when an MT accepts low wages like this, it brings the whole industry down. I was hoping she might see things in a different way. Someone has to speak up about what is going on in this industry. One of the reasons this has happened is because this is a mostly a job done by women, and thus your post, don;t hurt her feelings, cruel, etc. Do you think men think this way? No, they don't. The heck with feelings, we are fighting for our lives here. IT is not cruel to point out to her what she and others like her are doing, not at all.

How to respond to a remark - TT MT
[ In Reply To ..]
There are 2 sides to this argument, but the young woman who is taking the 3 cpl job has a right to do that without criticism, and I understand what the rest of you are saying about taking jobs where companies are getting away with murder by paying such a low wage. They will do this for a long time to come, and get away with it, because they can. They know that jobs are harder to get in the MT field that pay decent wages, and everyone is scrambling to find those jobs. If SMEEPS is happy, then that is her business. Women just out of school are hired at low wages and are glad to get it because they are new to the business. This also hurts those of us who have experience. If someone out there is willing to work for a lower wage then it will always hurt those that are skilled in their professions. This is not something new, and it always means that someone is out of work. The main point here is that we all talk about it, but no one ever comes up with a solution. I am really hoping that our profession will come back to the United States to stay, and a lot of companies are now finding out that the jobs these countries put out is far below par, sloppy and there is no pride in the work that is "farmed" out. Many other people that are not in our profession are finding out how hard it is to find work because our greedy government is sending it out to save a buck. It is too bad we don't have unions, at least then we would have some power. There are jobs out there where they do pay higher, but finding them is hard. I just wish we could all get paid an amount we could live on. Many years ago, when we were first told about VR, the MTs I worked with all knew this was the end of an era for us, and it would mean that we would work harder for less. Of course, those that were introducing this to the hospital we worked for all said "no way, you will make more money, and then each MT company I worked for all the said the very same thing! Well, it happened and here we are.

A Little Holiday Message Of Hope (I Hope!) Dec 10, 2013Hi, everyone. No Getting Back To Everyone That Applies May 21, 2010When we post a job opening on this web site we get a ton of replies and many of them are not even interested when we call. Not everyone gets a call back after they apply. From some of the posts it seems we are offending people if we do not call them back. We call back the app ...
