Gulf Coast GCT, this is my first year working there and - concerned

have heard it gets slow during the summer, particularly July-August, but this slow? I love it there, I really really do. I read, below, about people who said just get used to the slow down and I am trying, but I am not evening making minimum. It all seemed to happen after the computers were switched over or whatever it was mid-May with lots of work and now barely any.

I need reassurance that it always is this slow and will pick up in the autumn. In the meantime, guess I am looking for a second job. A bit bummed, but such as the life of an MT.

I ran from there as soon as "R" became micromanager. She changed everything treating ICs as employees, pretty much not paying incentives if you missed one sign in time. It's not only that it's slow season, it's that she has overhired. MTSOs don't care if they overhire and you don't have work, as long as their turnaround times are met.

I like her, but if you worked there before, I didn't, so.... As for over-hiring, perhaps, but I work a really odd shift when others wouldn't be working. She told everyone not to move over to anyone else's shift, so I don't understand how that would possibly be it.

Are you talking about Lee Memorial Health Systems? They just switched over to EPIC, which, from what I can find out, is an EHR system, meaning the doctors are starting to enter their own documentation. Less for transcription. I work for a different company who services the hospital system, and we went from over-time to NWA in a matter of days. Not looking good, I'm afraid.

this is just how it's going to be from here on out, or is it the off-season and it will pick up more? Does EPIC mean they don't need MTs anymore?

I've worked on the account for almost 3 years now, and while there are occasionally low work volumes this time of year (when the snowbirds go home, mainly), it's never been this bad or this sustained. So, I do think it has to do with the new system they've just implemented, especially if the doctors/PAs are able to put their ROS/PE, orders, etc. in by themselves. It doesn't leave a lot for us to do. I'm looking around for another company, but I don't know where I'll find one that is so flexible with hours and with ED work that I just love. Great dictators, too. I hate EMR. It's worse than VR, I think.

They have terminated some office/administrative people and now have eliminated weekend incentives and given pay CUTS to transcriptionists. Work is nearly non-existent. At the beginning of the summer they said it was a temporary slow down and would pick up shortly. Instead it seems to be getting worse. Anyone know anything?? Someone asked about them and I am bringing it back up to the top. One person said it all now VR, another said they saw their only account in the "Nuance pool." I don't get it. First of all, what is a Nuance Pool? I work for them and although work has slowed down, if Nuance was now contracting, wouldn't the work be completely gone? Also as for all VR, it's about half and half. We are hoping the summer slow down will end soon and work will pick up ...

I am checking out my community college catalogue and getting excited at so many interesting courses. I'm not looking for a long, drawn out process or degree, just some subjects that will be fun, creative and could also translate into making me more marketable.
