Does anyone work full-time lines with just one job? - sm

Posted: Jan 29, 2013

I have always worked for several different companies to make sure I can get a full-time line count.  It frustrates me, because I apply for a "full-time" job and it is barely part-time on a daily basis.  So, then I obtain another job to help supplement the first one and I don't know, it just gets to the point of overwhelming me when they both seem busy at once.

Is it possible these days to have ONE job that provides you with full-time lines or am I dreaming?  I am very understanding regarding holidays and such (Except for when they hit you with work has been slow for two weeks due to President's Day), but I just want to be able to work one job and have my lines.

If anyone knows of a company I could try that would be sooooooooo greatly appreciated:)

I have always only worked just one full-time job and get much higher than the minimum full-time line count. I currently work for Landmark.

Ah, been there and done that. - OP

Unfortunately, I didn't have the same experience with Landmark. Thanks for sharing though:)

Been sitting here requesting jobs all day. Color me annoyed. Wish I knew what accounts you busy MTs are on, cause it sure isn't the one I'm on.

Afraid to have 1 job. What if it loses your acct, gets bought out by - MTSO you refuse to work for, etc. nm

I had been working for 3 different ones - back in September...

all three were lost within 30 days of each other to emr and voice rec, leaving me with nothing to fall back on. I have since taken on 3 more accounts, but will not go full time on any particular one, for the fear of losing any one of them again. I have to work hard to struggle with all of them, but it is the only source of security I have right now. They can all be lost in a heart beat through no fault of your own.

Sorry - but you are

DREAMING....only in a perfect world would we be able to have one full time job. I work 3 and still dont have enough.

Never have worked more than one MT job at a time - see msg

I worked 10yrs as a hospital MT before being outsourced to Medquist, took the job offer with them and still there. I make full-time line count and then some. Yeah it did slow down quite a bit over the holidays, but that seems to be the norm everywhere from what I can tell. Other than that, I have no problem getting my line counts.

I think it varies from person to person. Unfortunately everyone does not always have good experiences. What works for one may not work for the other.

Same here - Another busy MT

I have been an MT for about 12 years now and I have never had more than one job at a time. There certainly are times when work volume is slower (i.e. major holidays, spring break, etc), but I have always managed to make well over full-time line counts. I do consider myself fortunate since I know that not everyone has this experience.

So busy MT, can you tell me a little bit about Landmark? I am doing editing (supposedly) with Entrada and I am sinking. I do more straight transcribing than editing as their VR software is not very good. I am lucky if I get 500 lines a day and I am used to at least 1,200 a day at a much higher rate.

You will more than likely have the same experience at Landmark unless you just want to add it on as part-time to what you have, then you may be okay. Most of the time, these MTs that praise Landmark are new to the company and just haven't gotten to the point when the work runs dry with no explanation whatsoever. I, too, used to be the "Yay, I'm so busy at Landmark, must be everyone else that has the problem" but then when my work ran out and I got no explanations, I realized they were right.
Not my experience with Landmark - Busy MT

I have been with Landmark for about a year and a half, so I am by no means new there, and have yet to run out of work. There have been slow days, but I have never totally run out. I get excellent line counts, much more than 12,000 per pay period. I do mostly straight typing with some VR mixed in on my account. It may have something to do with the fact that my account is an ER account with a large number of dictators that is always pretty steady.

Trying To Find Part-time Or Full-time Employee Position (hospital/clinic)
Apr 30, 2013

If anyone knows of a hospital, clinic, or large practice offering remote full-time or part-time employee positions, I would really appreciate an email.  I have the sudden need to help support a family member long term (in addition to myself) and really need to find a long-term remote employee position for the stability.  Yes, I watch all the various employment sites and even individual hospital sites, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe someone who works for a hospital that does th ...

MQ Rehire Policy For Part Time To Full Time
Apr 09, 2011

I worked for MQ full time and then went to part time last year, before finally quitting altogether because of health problems. I seem to remember an obscure policy that if you were full time and then went to part time, you could not go back to full time for a period of at least 1 year.  Can anyone verify that for me? IF, and this is a big IF, I were to go back to work for MQ, I would need to be full time. ...

Optiscript Part Time To Full Time
Nov 19, 2011

Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done.  I am thinking of cutting down to part time at my current employee so I can work part time elsewhere and eventually just leave my current employee once I see how the land lays elsewhere.  Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated :) ...

Change From Full- Time To Part- Time.
Sep 10, 2012

I am still debating whether to enroll at Andrews or M-TEC.  My husband is retiring in 2 years and I want to be able to work part-time after that.  Is it realistic to think that I can complete the course at Andrews or M-TEC in 12 months at the most, work full time for a year and then part-time after that.  I would want to be able to work from home.  I guess the other question is "How long after graduating could I expect to earn enough to make it worth the investment, in a reas ...

The Contradiction Of Full-time IC.
Jan 19, 2010

It seems to me that full-time IC is a contradiction.  I mean, in order to really be an IC, per IRS, don't they indicate that you should have more than one client?  So, if one client requires full-time, that means you have to work more than full-time in order to keep everyone happy?  Yeah, I know, there's no way to fight it, because there will always be hungry MTs anxious to fill the full-time IC positions.  In a perfect world, in my opinion, no MT would be required ...
