I'm 100% sure that hiring somebody in a managerial/supervisory capacity as an independent contractor is a violation of labor law.
Maybe when you get moved from the initial production-based position to the final supervisory position, they will switch you to an hourly or salaried employee status, but if they don't... well, heck: Take the job, work as a "supervisor/contractor" for a year, then sue them and get really paid.
