job qualifications

I don't know if any of you have noticed about job offers for transcriptionists and when you go for the interview you find out they want them to do things other than transcription that is not listed in the posting. This includes jobs they are not qualified to do like take out stitches, draw blood, etc. There is illegal and is a big concern for patient safety. Transcriptionists who are willing to do that are putting themselves in legal jeopardy if something goes wrong. Someone has to stand up against physicians who want to role all kinds of jobs into one to save money. A friend of mine did not get a job because she was unwilling to take path cultures for the doctor and draw blood. These clinics have to be reported due to patient safety concerns. Using a scribe rather than a transcriptionist to do their transcription is one thing, but having them do other things they are not qualified for is another. At some point we have to get back to the basics and let nurses do nursing jobs, transcriptionists do transcription, etc. Transcription jobs are being phased out by voice recognition (which half the time is a joke), EMR platforms, etc. Maybe you don't agree with me, but I am tired of seeing us phased out to save a buck!!!!!
