There are dozens of programs that will help parents with kids. You can get free food, free utilities or reduced utilities, help with health care costs, etc. if your birth control failed and you have kids you can't afford. It is single women, especially those over 60 who suffer in American society - there are no programs for us and we didn't make "man money" so we aren't as comfy financially as men the same age. We didn't get "senior citizen tax credit" checks from the govt like people with kids did.
