Is CMT Certification still a thing? - MT2

Posted: Jan 26th, 2022 - 6:44 pm

Somebody offered me a transcription job the other day, but said they could only hire "certified transcriptionists". I have only come across two people in all of my years of transcribing who had CMT certification, and from the very beginning I have always been under the impression that it was a rather pointless affectation that transcriptionists could obtain to burnish their resumes, but it had no real professional value. (And, as I had never seen a job that asked for CMT certification until now, more than 2 decades into my career, I have had every reason to believe that was indeed the case.)

So: How many of you out there have paid the $250 to get your CMT certification? Why did you do it? And what benefit did you derive from having it?
