Receptionists and file clerks - Fooled again Posted: Jan 5th, 2022 - 8:43 am In Reply to: I've been in this business a long.... - Fool Me Twice
I agree with what someone else said. I was on on-site MT (different employers) for 30 years. My employers all treated me well and my skills were in demand. For one thing, receptionists are not ditzy. Dealing with the public all day, juggling schedules and phone calls takes a special kind of skill that I never had. File clerks also require special knowledge because most systems were not straight alphabetical and a lot of people transferred those skills to data entry jobs. As far as MTs knowing as much as doctors, it only demonstrates that some of us placed ourselves on pedestals, and you are sadly mistaken. Physicians have 15-20 years of post graduate training and make life and death decisions every day. I doubt that you can perform surgery or manage a trauma team. My MT job ended with outsourcing, but it wasn't until I landed in another clerical job that I saw how entitled we thought we were. Good luck with the grocery store job. I hope you enjoy it, but somehow I don't think those workers get much respect either, especially someone just starting out.
