Do not "volunteer" to be laid off, just file now for partial unemployment - drbso

You do not want to "volunteer" to be laid off or go to reduced hours. You will likely never get unemployment that way. YOU CAN file now for partial unemployment if you have "reduced hours" due to COVID-19 (in fact, you can file anytime you have reduced hours and you would bring home less than what unemployment would pay you). File for partial unemployment due to reduced hours. DO NOT USE PTO to cover for any hours or it will affect your unemployment. You will either be denied that particular week or lose it because you will more than likely make MORE than you would on unemployment for that particular week you used PTO.

It is unclear if you are filing partial unemployment if you will see the additional $600.00 per week on top of your regular payout or not. If you are fully laid off, however, you will get your regular weekly payout PLUS the additional $600.00 each week for at least 4 months!

So, do not volunteer for anything. They either can lay you off and you file as fully laid off, or you just work whatever hours you have work for, and file for partial unemployment due to reduced hours (which you might want to mention is due to COVID-19 to avoid a waiting week). Otherwise, you can file for partial unemployment ANY TIME you have reduced work hours. SAVE your PTO if you can.
