If you volunteer, it won’t be considered a layoff and your UE claim might get tossed out. In my state, if it’s your idea it doesn’t count. You might not get called back when work picks up and you might not find another MT job. If you have PTO, can you use some of that, or maybe you could temp somewhere, the delivery services are hiring. I think volunteering to take time off might be looked upon as a resignation, Do you think there would be more work if people worked different shifts?
