I see I really did not answer your question. I don't think the transcription itself has changed that much, just the software programs, and the expectations of the companies and the pay. I would make sure I was knowledgeable about what equipment I would need to invest in. Do you need a different desktop or a newer version of MS Word? Almost all the companies only hire independent contractors now. There are a few that hire employees, but I don't know of any. The pay now of course is lower, the company expectations higher. I work for AST. I like the company, the pay is 4/7, which is typical.
