ICs need to make themselves learn their rights and responsibilities. Never sign a contract you do not agree with. Never pay to work for someone. Have the HR person answer your questions before you sign and if they do not - do not sign your butt away. Keep your side of the contract in terms of showing up and doing your part. Clarify things you do not understand. Be professional even if the company reps are not. Your reputation is important to your livelihood - take that to the bank, literally.
