Clarification on 6-word rule - Current PFer

Posted: Jun 28th, 2018 - 10:21 am In Reply to: Some things to know in advance.... - Jade

I agree with all Jade has to say except the 6-word rule. She has it all wrong. We are certainly allowed to type sentences over 6 words. There is no rule about how long a sentence can be. The 6-word rule you hear so much about only pertains to list of symptoms, such as in the review of systems or sometimes in the patient's history. In other words, if the physician dictates that the patient has no sore throat, earache, cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, constipation. You have to start a new sentence after 6 are listed. It is frustrating if a long list is dictated. You find yourself wasting time, backtracking and counting words. Totally disrupts your typing flow.
