then I hope you'll be happy when some company figures out how to pay only for keys actually pressed--meaning if you use a shortcut to put the words in the document, you get paid only for the keystrokes in the shortcut.

If I were to be paid strictly for the spacebar and other format and alphanumeric keys my fingers actually hit, I would need to ask for many multiples of my current line rate!

Line counts are simply a way of estimating the work and therefore the time required to produce a given document. The goal is a line rate that equals reasonable pay per hour of work no matter how a line is defined.
