foot pedal and dictation slow, jerky - oldie but goodie

What does everyone do when the foot pedal and dictation don't work correctly, not all the time but on some, when transcribing.  The dict does not stop when foot pedal is not being used.  Transcribing is VERY delayed.  Do I have to call support :( and let them do something?
