their financial protection and/or gain needs to be paying you for the time they are asking/requiring you to take away from your own life's activities and devote to their needs. This is common sense. Just because we have pretty much always been willing to allow ourselves to be bullied as a work force doesn't negate the fact that it is an unfair practice, and just because service owners have always gotten away with this doesn't mean fighting back will inevitably be unfruitful.
