ER scribe jobs are not done by medical students. - sm

Here we go again with that nonsense!

In order to get into medical school in the US, you have to graduate from a 4-year college with a bachelor's degree, then apply to attend medical school, which is a 3 to 4-year professional program resulting in a doctoral degree.

Students in college are not yet medical students--they just want to be one. They may be in premed programs, but that is nothing special. They have time to work in part time jobs. They may choose scribing in ERs because they feel it enhances their med school application. That and the fact that jobs on college campuses pay even less is why scribe companies can get away with minimum wage.

Medical students do not have time for jobs. They go to classes most of the day and have huge study loads in the first few years, then have clinical rotations later, all of which prevent any possibility of working. Medical schools may even not allow it. No ER would encourage that kind of distraction from study.

Again, medical students and residents are not employed as scribes in offices, EDs, or hospitals. The ED scribes you see are possibly premed students, or nursing or undergrad PA students.
