That took me long enough! - Nuance Can KMFA

Posted: Mar 23, 2015

I quit today. No 2 weeks notice. No anything. "You won't ever be able to work for Nuance again if you do this." That's like saying, "You won't ever be able to hit yourself in the face with a hammer again if you throw it away."

There is NO WAY an MT can survive not knowing what they will make week to week. Who can budget like that? They can stick their "compensation plan" up their yin yang.

I am free!  :)

I did the same thing and never looked back - Too show you

badly organized, if you can all it that, Nuance is....I got a call approximately 2 weeks after I quit asking if I could "jump on" and clear up the the back. is right.

Said I would be glad to.

Right? - Nuance Can KMFA

Disorganized is a compliment. Truly. I can't believe I lasted as long as I did.

Only staying until I get a new job... - Fed up

[ In Reply To ..]
Only sticking around as long as it takes me to find a new job -- OUTSIDE of MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION!!!!!!

Meeting with a career counselor/vocational expert to assess my skills and have her help dust off the resume I had prior to becoming an MT 5 years ago. Can't wait to quit and tell Nuance to KMFA as well. I am so fed up with their compensation changes on a whim with no regard to employee satisfaction or employee issues.

What other industries do you know of where the salary continues to decline rather than rise?!? Even that fast food worker at McDonald's or Dunkin Donuts is doing better 20 years after he/she started out -- but not so if you're highly skilled in medical language/pharmeuticals and responsible for the medical records of people coming and going through America's hospital systems.

Someone mentioned alerting their fellow congress person to the medical transcription industry situation...I do hope they follow through with that and some course of action happens. Unfortunately, I won't be around to see it happen. Need to get out of this slave wage business and begin earning a regular salary with regular vacation and regular salary reviews. I can't take this any longer!!!!

Question for you about career counselor/vocational expert - sm

By chance, did you find this occupational help through the local employment office, and if not, can you tell me where I might look in my area (eastern state) to find this type of career help? I think it sounds immensely promising.
Thanks in advance :)

I didn't post the above but I would think you - could google something like

Paying through the nose - Anon

Acutally via my mediator as I am negotiating a separation agreement/divorce right now. The vocational expert is through the roof expensive $185/45-minute sessions with an expected 10 sessions needed. I had contacted another one who needed me to purchase a "package" of 10 sessions for $3400 -- so not too pretty when $ is the central issue. I would just look online for vocational counselor and see what types of things come up...

Ditto. - Please sm

Also working my way out of this abyss--N and MT. I have been going to job-search workshops and starting to strengthen my software skills. My biggest problem is not knowing what I want to go into yet. However, I did hear that the average babysitting fee in the big city near me is $13.50/hr. Currently, thanks to line-busting dictators, I make under $9.50/hr, so that would be a pay raise. Pathetic, huh?

I LOVE IT!!! - memls

I did the same thing right before Christmas of all times! LOL..my husband was even out of work from an injury he sustained in August but that was not enough for me to be treated like I wasn't worth anything! I quit and left the MT world altogether! Now I am a customer service agent which I love and can eventually start doing it from home..Good for you!!!!!

Geez!  I was hired by a national last Friday.  It is a full week later, and they haven't even gotten all the paperwork done.  I thought I had completed it all and then they said human resources forgot a few papers.  Well, they have yet to email them to me today.  I thought I would be at least training by now.  It has been a full week.  I mean they still have to install software on my computer, and I still have to train on ES and the account specs.  Ge ...

Why Does It Take So Long?
Mar 08, 2011

Anyone out there notice this?  That it takes twice as long to do an op note anymore in ASR what with all the cutting, pasting, standards, going back to check whether or not to delete headings, blah, blah.  It used to be a cinch to simply bring in one of my standards and make the appropriate changes according to the audio, but now with ASR, it takes twice as long.  I feel like I'm running in place and going nowhere just to make ASR learn something.  It's such a waste ...

How Long Does It Take To Not Be Known As An MT
Jan 24, 2013

I have known where this 'profession' was headed for years; even in the late 1990s I knew. I earned the education that I need with both an associate degree and bachelor's degree (bachelor's degree from Big 10 university) and, still, many people view me as an MT, which we can all agree is not good. I have experience in my new line of work, and I have worked in that field in the past. How long is it really going to take before people do not view me with all the negative stereoty ...

How Long Did It Take You To Get Off Of QA?
Dec 01, 2014

I have only been working a couple of months at Nuance and I am just wondering how long it takes to get off of QA and become DSP status.  It feels like QA is nitpicking me to death.  This is the longest I have ever been on QA before.  How long does it generally take to get off of QA.  My last audit was 99.85%.   I cannot seem to get a straight answer from my TSM either... ...

After Long Deliberation
Feb 16, 2010

After over a year without an MT job I have decided to turn my degree into a Nursing assistant degree. Not to say the MT jobs aren't out there it is just tough for newer MT's to land them with all of the competition. Employers have the right and the demand to be very picky with everyone vying for the position. Good luck to everyone who stays and does well in the MT business but it is time for me to turn my dreams into reality and start making a little green. ...

How Long Does It Take You??....600 Lines...sm
Apr 12, 2010

How long does it take you to type 600 lines?  I am considering taking an at-home position in addition to my in-house transcription position.  The minimum line count for this company is 1800 lines a week and I'd like to not have to work more than three days a week for them, which would be 600 lines per day.  I believe I'd be typing straight into Word, so the only quick-text I'd be using is the Microscoft AutoCorrect.  I would be transcribing clinic notes wi ...

Has Anyone Had A Company To Sue Them? (Sorry This Is A Little Long)
Jun 01, 2010

This is what happened.  I have done transcription for a local doctor for two years, no problems.  Well, apparently the office starting having money problems and the doctor called me in to ask me how I count the lines.  I told him that I have counting software based on 65 characters with spaces.  I have to keep a log that has patient name, how many lines and how much the report costs, and I turn in an invoice with that. So, anyway, when I told him about the software and the 6 ...

Editors? How Long Did It Take You?

I've been an MT for many years but I am new to SR editing and I am feeling kind of incompetent.  Today it took me 45 minutes to edit 1 note which was 57 lines long   I've worked for 5 hours today so far and I have 500 lines.  For any MTs out there who switched over to editing, how long did it take you to get up to speed with it and earning a decent hourly wage?  For the experienced editors, about how many lines do you edit per hour?
