Survey of New Pay - Meh

Posted: Feb 02, 2015

Before the new pay rule game, I made 7.5 cents (3.75 cents for editing). Then when this new pay game started, I made less at 7 cents. However, I find lately I've been actually making noticeably more money with this pay game. You just got to keep quality and pending to QC under control. In fact, I think I now make a few hundred dollars more per month, if I keep it up, keeping quality up and QC pending down. I know some of you were actually paid 8 cents (4 cents for editing), so there is less room for progress in pay, as compared to my original 7.5 cents where there is more room for a greater increase in income. I'm wondering whether others have made more or less money with this new pay rule game.

Less, - much less

[ In Reply To ..]
I took a 2 cent per line pay cut.

To get back to where I was is not impossible. Stinks.

How Is That? - Meh

[ In Reply To ..]
If you took a 2 cent per line pay cut, Nuance must have been paying you about 2 cents more than I was getting, which was 7.5 (3.75 for editing). That means you were actually paid fairly decent by Nuance at 9.5 (4.75 for editing). Is that so? I don't understand how else you could get a 2 cent per line pay cut unless that was the amount you got paid before.

That's about right meh, came from a buyout - and kept that pay.nm

[ In Reply To ..]
right now I am making lots more with the new pay plan but, of course, could change with one bad Fiesa score.

Yeh, making more - FOR NOW

[ In Reply To ..]
This does not make me happy though.

I would rather something in the middle that will not get taken off me for some arbitrary perceived mistake. I would even rather the 7/3.5 which really seems to be their true goal, and a way to work to get a true bonus, while still knowing you are getting the base pay, NOT the horrible feeling of a rug being pulled from under you every time you are forced to look at FIESA.

The fact we don't know what we are making from week to week, combined with the "errors" which are sometimes ridiculous, yet backed up by the QA checker people, means you can never get complacent about your livelihood.

That combination of complete and utter control, contempt for what we do, combined with their obvious desire to strip our pay by any means, is Nuance. The one good thing is at least when you get the "error" now your punishment lasts (I think) only 1 month instead of the 3 month quarter it did before. Pretty sure, anyway, but I cannot devote the time to figure all this garbage out and really could not care less.

You don't agree with the contempt for MTs? Why then is there, to my knowledge, never an MT representative when they concoct such an abomination as FIESA, or if there is they should be ashamed of themselves. Am I the only one who noticed in the original new payment plan webinar that the "focus group" of MTs were the odd one out, they "just did not see the need for quality control" or some such nonsense, and you know that's not true.

My guess is the MT focus group might have brought up the point that sure, quality is important, but why does it mean our pay gets docked? And that is how they interpreted it. So if there was truly a representative of our profession in their planning at any phase, wouldn't they and shouldn't they have stuck up for us?

I cannot imagine an MT approving this idiotic system at all, no matter how high and mighty they may have become.

So again, I would rather a guaranteed base rate and then going for bonuses, and knowing you will never get that "payday surprise" of them again knocking your pay down at the last minute. Ugh.

agree with above - newbutold

Overall yes I am making more and I calculate what I would have made on the old pay scale also and have never made less than what I would have made on that pay scale and several checks have been over the old figure by 75 to 100 dollars, BUT not knowing what you are making week to week is absolutely STUPID. What company does this??? I wonder if they realize or even care that they are a laughing stock. I have spoken with other people that I know who are with other larger companies and Nuance is considered a big joke and they are taking advantage of employees who are leaving and going to them.

Did you count how many "ifs" are in your post - That is an issue, IF.

[ In Reply To ..]
No payscale should be determined by so many IFs.

I only noted 1 if in her post; however, with nuance - EVERYTHING is iffy

Much more - DJ

[ In Reply To ..]
Taking home 200+ more per week. The "ifs" are very important, keep quality up and QC down and line count decent. Am and always have been very consistent with those "ifs". Working out very well for me.

correction - DJ

[ In Reply To ..]
That's 200 take home per 2-week pay, not one week

I used to be on a High Horse, too - Fresh face

[ In Reply To ..]
In the top 3 and always 1 or 2 in quality, but then the new pay came in along with new "difficult" ESLs. One is so difficult that we can send up to 6 blanks because he makes no sense. The other acct actually pays more because it is so bad there is only Non Speech. I got my W2 yesterday and will never see the good money I used to make, even with quality at top tier. Conscious effort to keep me down? Bet your butt on it.

Less - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I do acute care with 100% ESL, and those who are not ESL are horrible. Because I have had to slow down to make sure I don't miss a comma or a combining word (the, and) I am making much less lines. So, I even though I am getting 10 cents a line, I am making less lines, and so I am losing about $50 a week.

more - but nothing consistent

[ In Reply To ..]
I have no problem with QA 99-100, QC is usually 0 or close to it, never even close to 10%.

I type/edit verbatim no matter what and since I moved to that, I rarely get errors and it pretty much takes care of the QC% too. My production always varies, yet still I am getting a higher CPL than before.

My first pay on the new sucky plan was actually $230 higher than my last pay on the old plan, but it hasn't been as good since, though I am still making more on the new plan though even. However, I do agree wholeheartedly - it is STUPID!

And there is the key....type verbatim - EXACTLY what they say

[ In Reply To ..]
That is so the VR can get trained and they can then do away with you. Sad but true. That is why there is the push to type VERBATIM, even if it is poor grammar...gotta get that VR trained. Enjoy making more FOR NOW while you can.......

more pay but more stressful - braindead

[ In Reply To ..]
First, I often used to go over 10% of lines sent to QC, since I have some bad ESLs. Now, I have to worry about the pay ramifications! So I agonize over the blanks, which in turn drives down my total lines and LPH, because it takes longer to finish my jobs. However, I lately decided that, if nothing else, QC<10% is the one thing I HAVE to accomplish, since failing will knock my pay down to 7 cents a line no matter HOW good my LPH or quality is, and 7 cents is even less than my prior (crummy) wage before this new pay plan! Unacceptable! Therefore, I made the decision that if I know for sure the blank isn't a critical word, for instance a diagnosis, I'm going to just make a reasonable guess at what I think the doc meant, if it will keep the job out of QC's hands. I absolutely refuse to accept 7 cents, and I realized that this is the only parameter on The Grid where I can actually "choose my destiny." I'm not very happy about this decision, but finally the company has pushed me too far, so that's the way it is going to be.

Second, stress-wise, I've been punching out more, for every interruption, to get my LPH into a better tier, but that also means I have to work longer, past the end of my shift, in order to show the correct number of hours for the day, so now I'm even more tired at the end of the day than I was before this new pay plan. I know I don't have to do this, but if I am able, it will help.

Otherwise, fortunately Post Audit seems to keep picking little bitty jobs that result in 100% quality. Of course, that is just the luck of the draw, I'm afraid.

So yes, I'm making $80-$100 more a week, but it's costing me in terms of walking more of a fine line ethically and also being more dog-tired.

Pay survey get real - rock bottom

[ In Reply To ..]
All those who are 'making more' did you factor in the lost incentive and lost bonus?

My cpl went from 8.12/4.3 down to 7 and 3.5.

Then, I lost incentive because there is no incentive any more.

So, per pay period I am down $300 to $400, because with incentive I made $175 per pay period.

Subtracting the incentive and deducting the lower cpl leaves me with the above.

It seems that Nuance took pay away from the acute care very high producers with high quality and moved it to the middle so that the median producers with lower CPL would 'earn more money' with this new pay scale.

The idea that skills and knowledge for acute care equals radiology equals pathology equals ambulatory in terms of difficulty is ludicrous. But that's what they did to 'level the playing field' for everyone. When they did that, they took away money from acute care and pathology.

So I'd like to see if you did factor loss of incentive and loss of bonus into your comparison.

hadn't gotten those anyway - braindead

[ In Reply To ..]
I only work 30 hr/wk, so was never able to earn incentive pay for high line counts. I made the quality bonus only once, so had set that possibility aside.

My Take On The SURVEY.....

I am an MT who has been around for 14 years with this company and I have my gripes like all the rest of you.  I took the survey and stuck it to them when it mattered.  For example, when they ask if compensation encourages people to do their best, the obvious answer is "strongly disagree" right?  When they ask if compensation is clearly tied to performance....again "strongly disagree."  Whether our answers matter or not, it's our opportunity to vent our frustrations with ...

Less than 10% of us have taken the long, boring, unpaid survey about your latest software tweak.  Maybe its because we're sick of giving you unpaid freebies!  Enterprise sucks.  Until you get better programmers it will always suck.  Any time we report a problem the IT desk diligently finds ways to try to blame the MT's internet provider, or any other way to pass the buck they can scrounge.  There is no point in giving feedback when nobody fixes the obvious.&nbs ...
