We have a headset survey to take, AND - I LET THEM HAVE IT!

Posted: Sep 22, 2011

They ask something like:  What was the brand name and model and if you don't know, then state don't know.

WELL!!!!  I TOLD THEM:  SINCE MY PAY HAS BEEN CUT IN HALF AFTER BEING WITH THIS COMPANY OVER 20 YEARS, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PICK THE CHEAPEST BRAND THERE IS.

Also asks where do you purchase your headset?

I TOLD THEM AGAIN:  SINCE I WAS GRANDFATHERED INTO THIS COMPANY WITH PAY CUT IN HALF, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT AT THE DOLLAR STORE.

AND SO ON!

:)

What I told them - mom2huskies

I told them that Medquist was too cheap to even pay for dollar store headphones. More or less they want to charge for the headphones anyways.

Free headphones for employees...sm - anon

I'm never one to say good things about Medquist but if you to to that Q Care self-service site you can make out a form to Support and request new headphones. I only know this because I was originally given a set of headphones when I first started at MedQuist and whenever they break I always get another pair. The last time (about a year ago) they sent me a pair of Logitech behind-the-head earphones. They are for Skype and they have a mic attached but you can just turn that backwards. I got these FREE from MedQuist and I priced them at Walmart for $20. So at least it's worth a try. Oh, and I'm just a part-time employee too.

MQ provides headphones for free - I like the free headphones

[ In Reply To ..]
If they break, they send out new ones at no cost.

Nice, but if my headphones break, I need new - ones NOW. Not wait for the mail.

[ In Reply To ..]
Oh well.
I ordered new ones from MQ 2 months ago and - Just passing through
[ In Reply To ..]
they arrived the next day via FedX. Anyway, I would have been glad to wait more than one day for free headphones that are really very good headphones. No other company I have worked for supplies free headphones, not to mention next day FedX.

When the MQ monitor went belly up several months ago, they sent a new one out right away next day. Of course, both these items were ordered during the week and not on a weekend.

I was also paid for the 1 day of work I lost because of MQ monitor failure, and was told could be paid up to 3 days due to MQ computer/monitor failure.

Before anyone flames me, I am not saying I am totally happy working for MQ and I am looking to get out, just saying that they do replace MQ equipment for free in a timely manner and pay for lost time, which in my experience is not so with some other MT companies.
You happen to be in the class of fortunates. - Less fortunate.
[ In Reply To ..]
I do not get paid when system goes down nor get headphones or pedal replacement right away. It took 4 days to get a new pedal and I was out of work for the whole time. Now I have an extra spare pedal that I purchased myself. I do not like their headphones that go behind the ears, even if they are more expensive. I will be lucky if my manager reads my emails. I guess some are privileged in this company.
I've needed my pedal replaced twice and - I use my own headphones
[ In Reply To ..]
Their headphones were awful so I bought a pair of Sennheisers that are the earmuff type. Best investment I made.

Forget about their keyboard, I trashed that after a month and got myself an ergonomic with volume control on it. My line count increased by at least 100 a day and my wrists stopped hurting. My nontyping husband can't use it because I've worn off the letters on the keys and he can't single-finger peck at them. I tried to request an ergonomic from them when my first was...drowned, but was told that they don't supply them to MTs. Why not?? Carpal tunnel is wonderful!

When my pedal stopped working both times they took so long to get me a replacement, I taught myself to operate the play/stop button with keyboard shortcuts while typing. I got pretty good without a significant lph drop, but boy did my hands ache.
The policy is on MQ Central, you get paid - I got paid also, no problem
[ In Reply To ..]
up to 24 hours (3 shifts) for technical downtime IF you have a MQ-owned computer and email your CCM so they can put it on your timesheet. If you have a MQ-owned computer, the fault lies with your CCM if she/he was notified by you and you did not get downtime pay. Read the policy and take action if CCM is at fault.

I also have never had any trouble getting equipment replaced in a timely manner and have always been paid for any time lost due to their computer equipment dying, happened to me twice and once just recently with their big old dinosaur monitor where I got 4 hours downtime as that was the time I lost and I got a nice new flat screen from them, nice.
What? Something is not right - Jaz

You should get with your CCM and/or Human Resources if you did not get paid, call if no response to email and then escalate. They have a policy for downtime on MedQuist Central for computer equipment failure (MQ computers only). I have never had any problems getting my MQ equipment replaced quickly and have been paid downtime when that has happened.

In defense of poster "just passing through," I think you are the exception and not the rule, nothing to do with being fortunate or privileged in this case.
Why don't you - sm

order a pair before you need them and keep them for if yours break. I, like the below poster, ordered some and they arrived very quickly.

LOL.....you guys, good for you. Doubt they will get the hint, but I sure bet venting felt good. Wonder why they give a rat's butt about any headsets used... heck, when your work keeps going away, does it matter if you have expensive or cheap ones? Probably going to penalize folks and blame them for "poor" quality because they don't "invest" in good headphones. Kinda hard if you have to chose between headphones or more Ramon noodles for breakfast, lunch, dinner! Ugh!!

I bet the India will do survey, so all the headphones will be from India - NM

what a great idea! I also told them much the same....that my salary for a tier 3, 15 year employee barely breaks $8, 9 and 10/hour, and who the hell CARES about headphones!!!

Got My New Headset
Aug 23, 2011

I am sorry to say that my old ones work better for me.  I think they would be ok, but I get a lot of (what I think is) cellphone audio, and they just don't work as well for that.  I have tried switching back and forth while working to test them, and then I always end up using my old ones.   I like the way they feel though.  It was worth a try. ...

Recommend A Headset, Please

I'm looking to purchase a new headset for transcription.  I had a Philips SHM-7500 and it lasted for 6 years. It's no longer being sold other than on E-bay from Korea ;) I have heard good things about both the Logitech h540 and the Spectra USB Transcription Headset, two totally different styles. Any input/recommendations for these or any others? I use it on the computer, not for cassette tapes. The Philips had the open ear cushions while the Logitech has flat padding. ...

Aluminum Stethoscope Headset
Oct 01, 2011

I want to get an aluminum stethoscope headset because I used to use one onsite at the cancer center I worked for and absolutely loved it.  I do have a question though.  What type of plug-in would I need?  I want to plug it into my speaker and I now use the Emdat Inscribe platform.  I don't think a USB connection would work for me since I wouldn't be able to plug it into the speaker, so I would guess I would need the prong type plug-in.  Most of the time wh ...
