ASR not saving problem found by IT - rock bottom

Posted: Mar 02, 2015

To those following. It turns out on windows last update, it snuck some add-on in that was possibly interfering with saving changes to my reports. When IT took that add-on off, the system started saving my changes correctly again.

Because I am very certain the 'error' that I got a 3.0 CPSE for I did change but the change did not save, I am thinking of bringing this up with my TSM.

They want us to update windows for security reasons, and so I do. I did not know that windows can sneak in add-ons without my consent or knowledge. So, this problem was not entirely my doing.

Now I'm really not interested in putting in any extra effort to get more lines, work OT, etc., when the set up is such that the extra effort is not helping but actually hurting.

To have to double check and triple check each report to make certain that the changes I made are being saved will bring my lines down to bare minimum or below.

What is your opinion about asking for some extra audits or for forgiving that audit due to the problems not entirely my doing?

Can you specify what the add-on was? - and get IT to put it in writing?

Honestly, if this is something that can happen so easily they should really be warning everyone about this.

If IT backs you up, this is a definite danger to all of us. Nuance should be putting out a special alert email re windows updates and specifying what to do about this.

Also, could there be many reports you did not realize were not saving properly? Can you imagine how many documents might have been saved incorrectly?

I know when you download the Flash and other software they always want you to specify search engines or add McAfee or Google Chrome and I know to uncheck the boxes, but as far as windows goes, you are not even given the chance, it just updates, so how are we supposed to stop this?

Internet add ons - rock bottom

[ In Reply To ..]
First, let me be clear, it was not everything that was not saved, it was a hit and miss thing. I checked by looking at backed up versions of a report that I was currently in only to see that things I changed several minutes before were not changed on the backed up version (CTL-J). How I knew that is because on the text document I was in typing and clearly looking at, the thing I changed WAS changed, but when I looked at the backed up version, it was NOT changed.

As near could be determined add on was interfering with proper software performance.

There would be no way for you or I to know each time a program updated whether it did or did not sneak in an add on (Google chrome is not an add on, it is a whole separate program), other than to go open an internet page, click on tools, then manage add ons. Look see what is there. If you have a concern about what you see, contact IT. Some add ons are there for the software we use, like Adobe, java.

My HP updater had added something when it last updated. I didn't know it had added anything on when it updated. Once that was disabled, the program worked again like it should. The manual backup also worked again like it should (CLT-ALT-J) and automatically saved my changes.

HP updater updated two weeks ago, so I suppose I could have a lot of issues. I'm not a software geek, nor should I be expected to be.

So, my new modus operandi before clocking in each day is to open a webpage, check tools, manage add ons, and see what shows up. Anything that shouldn't be there I will disable.

Now don't go disabling every add on you find there. Some are needed for our software.

Changes Made To ASR Not Saving
Mar 01, 2015

Aside from erasing the ASR text and typing the entire report myself, how can I know that the system is saving my changes? I am absolutely certain that changes I made are not being saved, and thus showing up as errors on QA reports. Some of which I am absolutely 100% certain I corrected the text, but alas the corrections are not saving. So, once again, I am completely off the grid. Perhaps I should do a Control-J on enterprise to check the text? Should I do Control-S to save and then do contro ...

QA Inbox After Midnight/spellcheck Not Saving
Feb 28, 2015

Hello, Well at 12:08 a.m. on 02/28, I had 99.03%. At noon on 02/28, somehow another QA audit showed up in my inbox. The reason why I distinctly remember this report is because 1) it was one of the last reports I did on 02/26 (notice it took 2 days to get to my inbox), and I laughed hysterically at what ASR put before I changed it during spellcheck (yes I did not catch it until spellcheck). However, I changed it during spellcheck, and lo and behold it never saved. This particular spellcheck no ...

I just found out that even though I am doing the minimal required lines (120) I am not earning minimum wage and so even if I increase my lines I won't make any more money....Until I am typing over 160 lines.   I am so angry.   Now they are pressuring me to get higher lines so I can get out of them paying minimum wage.  Which is insulting in itself.  I am going to try to do it and then be a benefited employee.  But I am just angry that 120 lines doesn' ...

Something That I Found Very Interesting
Nov 21, 2009

Just for the heck of it, I went to the resume section of this board, and noticed there were quite a few MTs with "entry-level or less than 5 year's experience" wanting to be compensated 10-15 cpl  -- I really seriously doubt that is going to happen, especially for a "newer" MT.  I would suggest that if you are really serious about finding a job in MT, then revise your expected compensation rate to something a bit more realistic. ...
