Higher quality! What! Higher than the 98% required now?? - SBH

"However, given the continued pressures within the industry and our recognition of how critical our reports are to patient care, we continue to strive for a higher standard of quality. As part of this, we are increasing our investment in our quality team. More details to follow, however, this should enable our MTs to efficiently drive an even higher quality standard within their work."

no it's 99% now! - they want better than that

[ In Reply To ..]
Our standard right now is 99% and I gather from this that that is not good enough yet.

I have a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I feel like we are going to suffer somehow as MT's with this "however" statement in the e mail about pressures demanding better quality. Why do I feel like I am doing more than my best, yet poor, and still the worst is going to happen soon. Like I am in the front of an oncoming train...
I also feel with this however statement that somehow we are going to be in trouble for something we did not do...
(sigh).

Someone in that e-mail needs to understand the comma and however rules!

Anyway, this is nothing new. MQ has been doing this since the dawn of time, restructuring, re-wording titles, going back to how they were before, etc., etc. I think this sounds familiar. Like, maybe early 2000s? I think it was that structure back then.

we should not be getting into trouble or penalized for not being perfect. We are given conflicting rules, we are dinged for things in audits depending on who is auditing, we are told to do it this way by 1 QA only to be told by another that it is wrong, and the list goes on.

We are expected to maintain a certain minimum line count yet expected to extensively reference information that should be given to us by the dictator such as cc information, which we do not get paid for, not to leave any blanks or get punished with First Time Right, and the list goes on. We also, of course, have little flexibility with our hours BUT expected to be flexible with our hours and pay when they do not provide us work during our strict scheduled shifts, and again the list goes on.

We all do this every day and do it well but still like children we have to be worried that we are going to get in touble but we have to be worried about getting in trouble for not being perfect. Oh, and then there is the First Time Right where they dock MT's pay and of course the performance managed punishment. I really do not think this company would get away with treating us this way if we were working together in an office environment. We would stand up for ourselves. I'm wondering if you guys voice your concerns and complaints to your managers? (I don't care what they are called, they are managers). Whenever I do, she acts as if she has never heard anyone complain before but she definitely to a certain degree responds in somewhat of an agreement with me. It would be a good start if we all voiced our opinions to our managers........Just a thought.
I agree. - mom2huskies

Everyday I expect to get written up because I made a mistake. This morning I looked up my QA and I had one job that was between 98 and 99%. I expect I will get written up for that one job that did not pass. By the way I transcribed what was dictated. All it took was one error to fail a three page report.
It's only possible to do one's best, and most of us are - already there now. Im trying not - s/m
[ In Reply To ..]
to sweat it too much, because I'm already working as fast as I can without being inaccurate, and as accurate as I can without being too slow. That said, they still hassle me about "too many blanks sent to QA", or
"not meeting the higher minimum lines" imposed on us a while back. If they're gonna fire me, then well, I guess they're gonna fire me.

SO FAR, however, that hasn't happened. Yet. After my latest writeup and "corrective/mentoring" action by management, I was sure I would be canned by the end of August. And yet, here I still am. They've been trying to get me to quit, but I'll only do that when (or rather, IF) I ever find another job to go to. If not, then they're going to have to fire me, and I know they don't want to pay UE.

For all intents and purposes, I have already GIVEN UP. I know I can't meet their unrealistic demands, and couldn't even if I were being paid ten times my current CPL. There's only so much we can do with bad dictators, slow software, low pay, and unreasonable demands. I'm still working, but I don't do one iota more than I absolutely have to, anymore. What for? At 4cpl, why bust my butt for an extra $5/day? No, I now consider job-hunting to be my OTHER JOB right now, and I devote up to half my day, each and every day, to that endeavor.
Any corporate sentence that starts with "however" - does not bode well, IMO

But, what do I know? I'm just a negative whiner.

Corporate gobbledygook for sure - Anxious for Monday

I guess I am a negative whiner too.

Increasing investment in quality team? Does that mean us or does that mean they are hiring more auditors in order to assure 99% or better? I would like to think they would be rewarding their troops but maybe it will be a reward like FTR, where we get to keep our money by not sending to QA.

And every time I see the word efficient, as in "enable our MTs to efficiently drive...." I see the word cheap and saving money. They already punish us for sending to QA and they already performance manage and dock pay for being under 99% so what is left? Don't answer either because I cannot afford to volunteer any more time to this company.

Apparently, Amy flunked college English. Looks like she's the one who needs a quality team to help her.

Our brains are hard wired now to find mistakes. I cannot read through a menu or online article or even an E-book without catching mistakes. Even the closed captioning on TV drives me crazy with all the mistakes.

But I know what you are saying, we are a tough crowd to please and no matter what she says we will shred it to pieces and find fault. However, knowing the audience is the first step in Writing 101. Knowing that we will find the mistakes and typos without even trying should at least warrant a spell check or a read through before sending out some of these corporate emails. Third time is the charm. Remember that one?

Splint infinities are just fine. They are not incorrect grammatically.
However Comma - Former Grammar Teacher
[ In Reply To ..]
All those commas after the however in the e-mail are INCORRECT. The sentence after them is just that, a new sentence, not part of the same sentence. If it makes a new sentence, it's a new sentence. A semi-colon would work, though, better than a comma!

To quote the Oxford Dictionary:

"The âruleâ against splitting infinitives isnât followed as strictly today as it used to be. Nevertheless, some people do object very strongly to them. As a result, itâs safest to avoid split infinitives in formal writing, unless the alternative wording seems very clumsy or would alter the meaning of your sentence."

Under the Employment Agreement, Ms. Amick will receive a $250,000 signing bonus and is entitled to an initial annual base salary of $325,000. Ms. Amick is eligible to participate in the Companyâs Management Incentive Plan (the â Incentive Plan â) and her incentive target for 2012 is 45% of her base salary and is contingent on the achievement of pre-established incentive plan target objectives set for Ms. Amick and the Company. For future years, Ms. Amickâs incentive target will be 45% of her then base salary contingent on pre-established incentive plan targets for each of those years, subject to an increased percentage at the Companyâs discretion. In addition to her participation in the Incentive Plan, Ms. Amick is also eligible to earn performance based restricted stock awards for each of the fiscal years ended 2013 and 2014 and each fiscal year thereafter to the extent that the Employment Agreement is extended. The number of restricted shares Ms. Amick may earn is determined by dividing $250,000 by the fair market value of the Companyâs common stock on the date of issuance as recommended by the Companyâs Chief Executive Officer and approved by the Companyâs Compensation Committee. Such performance based restricted shares shall be subject to time-based vesting in 12 substantially equal installments subject to Ms. Amickâs continued employment with the Company. Additionally, the Company has agreed to reimburse Ms. Amick for any reasonable relocation expenses to facilitate her relocation.

can anyone tell me what she does besides - a stupid meeting twice a year?

...do we live in where the President of the United States makes $400,000 annually, and the COO of M*Modal makes $325,000??? Now, I know that the POTUS's job includes a lot of other benefits and perks, too; but still....if this figure is accurate, how is this COO job worth pretty darn close to what the president earns, with all his stress and responsibilities?

Executive salaries have become insanely off the charts. This leaves a really bad taste in the average worker's mouth.

Let's just raise it to 100% quality - MModal Livestock

[ In Reply To ..]
To Amy Amick, did we ever do anything to you? Did a pack of MTs burn down your village and kill your family when you were young? Did you vow on that day to one day get into a position where you could ruin our lives every other week? Why do you hate us so? Do I come down to where you work and slap the whip out of your hands?

We give 99% quality because the doctors are doing the other 1%. We work our rears off and get peanuts compared to what we deserve.

I'm now mind boggled at my own behavior. Why do I work here? I could be working down at the Carl's Jr. with all the soda I can sneak past my manager and a dumpster filled with stray cats to play with.

Here's been the history of my career:
2001 - My mom, who was working for MQ back then, got a particularly difficult ESL doctor and had a stroke, costing us our home, car and whatever we couldn't carry out. She learned how to walk and talk again over the next 5 years, but would never be able to transcribe again.
2002 - I go to work for MQ. I'm young and naive and love my job. The first time I felt like an adult and was so proud. I live in a trailer down by the river and get Giardia for the first time from drinking the tap water.
2003 - My manager forgets and leaves me on OPs, ERs and discharge summaries only for a year on a single account. I make more money and have the best year of my career while I try to get us in decent housing.
2004 - MQ lowers my pay and I make 6,000 less dollars for the same amount of work. I get 10 extra accounts.
2005-2007 - MQ seems to build its whole business plan around ruining my life. I work more and get 4,000 less a year than 2004.
2008 - I have a nervous breakdown from the stress and quit. I go to work for eTransPlus. The day I take the test and ace it they tell me that I'm a good MT. I feel human again. I get more money, more flexibility and I love my co-workers, managers, QA, techs and everyone else.
2009-2010 - Life is getting better all the time despite the fact I get diagnosed with Crohn's, but it's covered by my health insurance, so things are working out.
2011 - eTrans, not telling it's employees, realigns its pay and benefits to be compatible for the future merger with MQ, which they were negotiating behind our backs. I lose my health insurance, my pay gets cut, my manager accuses me of "stealing" 24 cents by putting too many spaces at the ends of sentences.
2012 - Back at MQ, but now it's called MModal. I get audited again and have a quality coach I don't need or listen to. My pay hasn't been cut yet, but I can't make my lines because of the quality of the dictation. For no reason, they cancel my life insurance, so now my retirement plan of dying and making it look like an accident is gone too;)

Maybe when they finish off the last American workers, they will finally achieve 100% accuracy from the Indian MTs. Because the rest of us sure aren't cutting it.
Could you please just forward this to her! - truthhurts

Lyrics to Death to Our Home Town - mom2huskies
[ In Reply To ..]
I think the lyrics hit the nail on the head.

Oh, no cannonballs did fly, no rifles cut us down
No bombs fell from the sky, no blood soaked the ground
No powder flash blinded the eye, no deathly thunder sound
But just as sure as the hand of God, they brought death to my hometown
They brought death to my hometown
No shells ripped the evening sky, no cities burning down
No armies stormed the shores for which we'd die
No dictators were crowned
I awoke from a quite night, I never heard a sound
Marauders raided in the dark and brought death to my hometown, buys
Death to my hometown

They destroyed our families' factories and they took our homes
They left our bodies on the plains, the vultures picked our bones

So listen up, my sonny boy, be ready for when they come
For they'll be returning sure as the rising sun
Now get yourself a song to sing and sing it 'til you're done
Yeah, sing it hard and sing it well
Send the robber barons straight to hell
The greedy thieves who came around
And ate the flesh of everything they found
Whose crimes have gone unpunished now
Who walk the streets as free men now

Ah, they brought death to our hometown, boys
Death to our hometown, boys
Death to our hometown, boys
Death to our hometown, whoa!

They are soon going to expect us to do this for 8/4 cpl, telling us that they have to stay competitive. So if you send more than 5% of your work to QA you will be getting 1 cent per line for that work. That is when I say good-bye.

But then, she should already know that, shouldn't she? If she doesn't, I would be glad to be the one to clue her in. And if she does know that, then why does she continue to try and hold the people that are not responsible for the problem accountable for fixing it? You have all of these CEOs, etc., being grossly over paid to run these companies, and yet they haven't got a clue of how to successfully identify and then deal with the actual problem. None of them are worth the salaries we earn for them.

Update On Update Three Reports A Day
Aug 10, 2012

Hi everyone I just wanted to stop by really quick and let you all know that finally, FINALLY I am off QA. I was given two accounts today in addition to the one they had initially given me. I can now type w/o counting my reports and waiting for feedback first. It remains to be seen of course, whether or not there will be as much work as I was told but so far, this company has been true to their word. Still, four days on a very restrictive QA protocol was quite scary. I am a LOT grayer now ...

Probably My Next To Last Update
Mar 16, 2010

Just a quick line to let you all know that there are better things out there for you.  I am now 79 days away from graduating with my MD.  The only blocks I have left are orthopedics and pain management.  I have worked my way through medical school, which of course means I did not have much time to study.  None the less, I am in the top 10% of my class, and I attribute it to the information I learned transcribing.  Even if you feel you do not have the 4+ years to put ...
