As long as you are not working more than 7 days in a row without any days off, I think that is perfectly legal to require employees to put in an extra hour per shift.

It's not like they are telling you to get on and work your days off, they are just *telling you* it's mandated you work an extra hr per shift until we get caught up.

Hey, could be worse. They could be asking four 10 to 16 hr days.

Also, you can punch out and come back and do that hour later if you need a break.

If your unable to sit for 9hrs then take a break and come back and do the last hr.

they are forcing OT now because they can't keep any help, so force the ones that are here to do OT while they continue to tell us everything that is wrong is our fault.

Actually, in my state anyway, they can but they have to give you 24 hours notice for "mandatory" OT.

Our great leader called for mandatory OT a few weeks back for Wednesday through Sunday and we ran out by Friday. We got an email about working OT this weekend and ran out of work Saturday morning. Time after time they think the stars are going to align with extra patients plus some MTs on PTO and get all panicked and worked up because God forbid we actually have work for everyone to do.

After that mandatory OT fiasco I just say I am unavailable. What are they going to do- fire me? I think not. When they really need the help they will pay for it and make it worth my time and they will ensure there is actually work. Otherwise I can surely find better things to do.

They are requiring 1 hr mandatory OT on Sundays until further notice whether it is your scheduled day or not. I work 4 hours on Sunday already but have no time to put in the extra hour and have told them so. I have been threatened with corrective action.

Then, I would make them take hours from a different day if they want Sunday.

I would be calling more shots here. If they want me working an hour on Sunday, then I would substract an hour from Friday or Saturday. If they want 4 hours on Sunday, I would say I need off Friday and Saturday then, and will work Sunday through Thursday.

Do not play this OVERTIME game with them.

Every employee is entitled to one day a week off. I dont think they can make you work more than six days in a row.

Unless maybe you are part-time, but even then not sure.

Could the suits be so devious as to require mandatory overtime so it temporarily boosts income so they look like they are paying a living wage? Or is there just a supply/demand problem? I am sick of "mandatory" overtime! I know I should not complain b/c alot of you MTs out there are out of work and would gladly trade, so I hear ya there, but we are not notified of this OT until midday or at the end of the day, especially on Fridays, and we are not asked to work OT. My transcription job was always paid by the hour. I was laid off and they recently offered me a temp position with them making $12.00 an hour. I was also offered a positon that pays 7.5 and 3.5 cpl. I work second shift, so, due to the time change from PST to CST, after 10 pm my time, the last hour of my shift shows up as the next day. Not only cut in pay, it seems like the OT is no longer time and a half. I can't believe the amount of money I have lost. Anyone know how they figure overtime??
