Reading through posts and would like to know why - everyone says we are getting fired?

Posted: Nov 08, 2012

Why do people keep posting about being fired? I have read posts about some getting fired, but seems like a few of them were months ago, a year ago etc. Only a couple I have noticed were let go recently and they all said it was due to either not making minimum wage or not meeting line counts. Am I missing something here? Why does everyone seem to think we are all going to be fired?

not everybody - but more than a couple

The word is "several" here in the last few weeks, but have you ever noticed this trend before, people coming on and saying they had been let go with no notice because of production? Because I haven't.

I dont really keep up with this board like that, just noticed - that

I had seen a couple of posts here where people had mentioned it is all. Tried reading through some of the threads, but still could not draw a conclusion as to why people seem to be referring to the word "several."

From what I understood, the ones who were let go were let go due to production or not meeting minium wage and again, I only could only see where there had been a couple who were let go recently.

I did notice there were other posters chimming in that had previously worked for MM and were let go, so I wonder if that is where the word "several" is coming in at.

Just thought I had missed something is all. Thanks for the response.

yeah some said - same thing happened to them last week

and the thing is, we have a mentoring program to get people up to production. So firing them without warning for not meeting that production looks kind of suspicious.
getting fired - new but old

It did happen to me awhile back before any mentoring or anything. I had 3 different supervisors in the 6 months prior. I barely learned their name and then they changed. They kept adding accounts on and I was literally typing one report and then going to another completely different clinic/hospital with completely different specs. My production took a hit for a couple of months. I had been with them for 11 years. I was spending the majority of my day looking at the specs back and forth and then my new supervisor (who I had only spoken to 1 time) called and said they were letting me go because my production was too low. My accuracy was always 100%, never was that questioned at all. No warning call, no warning given at all. I was devastated. I now work for Nuance and am actually making a lot more money because I have only 2 accounts and the main one is mostly straight typing and the dictators for the most part are great. Medquist or MMOdal did me a huge favor.

So, you like Nuance? I'm look to make a change, hate it here at MModal. Been here for 10 years, since it was Spheris. I used to get $100 bonuses every payday and make $600-700 per week, part-time! As you know, those days are long gone. I just don't like the way I'm treated here now, no respect at all, constantly being reminded through emails that I may be terminated over any infraction, etc. Way too much stress for a little part-time job, in my opinion. Anyway, does Nuance provide equipment? Thanks for your information in advance.

I can only compare it to Medquist who I really enjoyed for the first 8 years or so and then I was in a revolving door of accounts being added all the time; new supervisors every month or so; after they fired me I didn't work for 8 months or so but really missed it. I am a stay at home wife and was truly bored. I didn't have the extra money to go out and do things with so I decided to start looking. I tested for several but Nuance was the first to call me back telling me that I had passed and they hired me. Yes I don't make the pay that I made at Medquist but I really do enjoy them. They have been nothing but supportive of me making my line count and yes I do believe they will supply your equipment. I had my own computer but had no foot pedal which they supplied without me asking. I was going to go and buy a new one because mine was so old. You need to ask them up front about that to make sure. Since I had my own computer, my TL just called me and accessed my computer and she just verified that I met their requirements of speed/capacity/etc.

Did they tell you that with access to your computer they also download spyware (without you knowledge). I know because my security software picked it up as a big RED X ALERT. When I contacted numerous people, I was told this type of software was illegal to download without prior approval. They did not get my approval or tell me they did it. Now I will no longer use that PC.

Why would they download Spyware?

I'm glad to hear this. I think I might get an offer from Nuance this week. My accuracy was normally in the 95's and higher. All of a sudden they said I was making critical errors which I'd NEVER had a problem in the 9+ prior years so it made me QUITE paranoid and unsure of myself. They dropped my accuracy into the 80's and a week later I was back in the high 90's. But I continued to be unsure and took LOTS of time checking stuff, so then said my production was low. I think they were just looking for a reason to get rid of me. They had not counseled me about production at all before.

editing. What I find suspicious is why I wasn't given the editing course at the same time as the transcription portion for DQS 6.1; moved to a new account and manager that actually was made up of 6 accounts across 3 states, similar but different enough client specs to make you fail an audit, transcribing work above their defined tier level criteria without the pay; why they thought it was productive to place me in their BOOST program based off a platform, although trained to edit on, was no longer using. The only thing the BOOST program helped me with was familiarizing me with 7.1, which I hadn't even taken a course for. Knowing I wasn't meeting line counts, I was told I couldn't just run through the videos for 7.1 editing on my own, but had to actually take the class, yet I was using it untrained to transcribe with. Irony is, I was scheduled to take that stupid editing class the following week. Lucky for me, in my state, they have to prove willful misconduct in order to have my unemployment claim denied, and incompetency is not considered willful misconduct. So, go ahead and call me incompetent too. I just have to ask, when you started doing acute care work, exactly how long did it take for you to get up to speed. More than a week?

Well when I started with them it was ages ago and I actually started in an "actual office" and worked there for a 90 day probation which once I was over that hurdle then worked another 2 or 3 months in the office to get my line count up to where it needed to be for them to let me go home and type. I was hired straight after going to school and they didn't want to hire me because I had no experience but my teacher at the school actually convinced them to come and let me test. They called me and told me that I had made a 97.8 on the test which I thought was great but then she told me that was considered failing and that I had to make 98 but because I was a student they were willing to hire me on a probationary period. Back then it was great and I had a supervisor I could call but over the years it just got less and less and I had so many supervisors and so many accounts that it was ridiculous and having to work a set schedule was a real pain. That was why I started doing this so I could set my own schedule. How times have changed!!! When I started doing editing for them, I had to go through a couple of classes and I actually love the editing and have no problem with it but the pay stinks, especially when some of them you end up having to practically retype the whole dictation. I made the mistake of going full time when I should have just stayed part time with them. I don't need insurance or anything.

There are MT DIVAS and QA DIVAS... why couldn't the Lord have given me a voice like Whitney or Aretha, then I could have been a real DIVA and not worrying about making 7 cpl and paying house and car payments.  To be Mariah Carey wouldn't be bad either.  Which DIVA would you choose to be if you have the choice?  George Michael, Donna Summer?  I mean REAL DIVAS! ...

First want to say I am so sorry for all MT's/QA who were laid off.  How terrible, yet I feel it could be a blessing in disguise because you can get unemployement and TAA and go back to school and get out of this field.  It is pathetic reading the posts from a suit who is trying to maintain damage control for the WEB company.  The suit is the one who is still getting paid with excellent benefits, not the poor MTs/QAs who have been let go.  Makes me sick that a suit woul ...

We have perfectly good, knowledgeable, qualified, and reliable MTs leaving this profession due to low pay, unreasonable expectations, unbearable platforms, and dictators who are not held to the same standards as the MT trying to transcribe their garbage into a professional legal medical document.  It really is a shame. I am not saying that we have a separate board regarding production, pay, platforms, etc., as I think that is what the Company Board is supposed to accomplish.  ...
