I wonder if they want their equipment back - sm

Posted: Jul 02, 2012

I left a few months ago and was never contacted about returning their equipment. Maybe they don't want it back if they aren't supplying equipment for employees anymore. Has anyone left recently and been sent the packaging to return their PC? I sure don't want to have to pay taxes at the end of the year on this "income."

I'm curious about the same thing... - ...have wondered, too (S/M)

I was sent a snail-mail letter that confirmed I had terminated employment, and it said, "If you have any company-owned equipment, you will be contacted separately," but I never got anything else. I haven't moved, and they clearly have my mailing address, so I figured the old PC that I have must not be "their" equipment since the company I originally got it from was acquired. My guess is that they acquired my old company's accounts and any employees who wanted to come on board, but the old PCs must not have been part of the sale(?). Still, I've wondered and wondered about this and just don't want to be hit with any big surprises down the road.

I'd be happy to return the PC if they send me a mailing label, but I'm just as happy not to bother with trying to pack it up if I don't need to. If the equipment isn't something they use any more, it must be more expensive for them to pay to have it shipped back....and then they have to actually store or DO something with it if they get it back.

Would love to hear from anyone else who has some other info about this.

I got the same letter when I left - sm

They said they would send the packaging to return the equipment but they never did. I remember a while back they closed their warehouse in North Carolina and consolidated it with one in Tennessee so maybe they don't have the storage room either. I guess I will have to call someone in support and find out because I sure don't want them hitting me with a "replacement" cost later on. I was working for them all along through a buyout many years ago. When I had problems with my original computer, they still had me return it to them so your equipment was probably part of the buyout. I will post on here when I find out what we should do.

Would appreciate that... - (see message)

Yes, PLEASE post here what you find out about it. I'd really appreciate that!

This might be a very dumb question, but do the hard drives really store any of the private patient information? I'm really dense about electronic stuff, but I thought any specific patient names and info somehow went through the "magical" airwaves and weren't held on the hard drive. LOL, I realize how dumb that sounds, but....I've never understood how all this electronic magic works! :-D

I've never even attempted to access it, so I don't know this for sure, but I assumed that my access to DocQscribe wouldn't even work any more since, presumably, my password was locked out as soon as I terminated employment. I was told to never put a patient's name or identifying info into any e-mail or even IM communication, so I never did. If I ever had to jot down a patient's name for any reason, I always shredded that piece of paper at the end of the day. I never wanted ANY possibility that I was compromising patient confidentiality.

I honestly think my PC is outdated now, anyway, so it's probably more of a headache for M*Modal to ask me to ship it to them...and at their expense.

I left about 2 months ago - sick and tired

and have never been contacted about the equipment. It is a couple, maybe 3, years old. I have been curious also if they are going to let me store it for free until they actually need it and THEN contact me to send it back?

I've had a Medquist computer for over 5 years now and never been asked - for it back

[ In Reply To ..]
It sat in a box in my closet forevvvver waiting and waiting, thinking that at some point someone was going to ask me for it back. No one ever did so I finally dug it out of the closet, cleaned all the DocQScribe software, etc off of it, and set it up in my son's room and he's using it right now. When and if they ever ask for it back I'll be happy to send it but since it's been over 5 years or more, I'm kind of thinking that some of these computers just fall off the radar.

I've been gone over 3 years and all equipment.... - sm

is in my basement. I was fired and no one ever asked for it back. I wonder if it is a HIPAA violation to have those hard drives unaccounted for.

Such high turnover they cannot keep track? - almost 1 year

[ In Reply To ..]
I got a new one when we were supposed to switch over to the new Docqscribe. They delayed and delayed the start so I delayed and delayed setting up the new one. I kept thinking surely someone would call or follow up. Eventually we did switch over and the old computer is now sitting in a box. Coming on 1 year now.

Considering that new employees have to provide their own computers now anyway it makes me wonder if they even know who has computers and who does not?
I have 2 of them ... I now use one as my home computer - LOL
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't think they have ANY CLUE who has one and who doesn't. Any time you have "Tech Support" keeping track of something (ANYthing) you're asking for trouble - muchless to keep track of hundreds of old computers.

My Medquist/MModal computers have been upgraded twice in the last 6-7 years and I've never been asked for either computer back. One of them is super slow (and super old) sitting in my closet but the other one I've used as my home computer for over a year now. Not a single word has ever been said about having either one of them back, and I sure as hell am not sending them back at my expense.

I wonder - GoneandGlad

I resigned a week ago and was told by my former CCM that it would take 4-6 weeks for them to send me a return label for their computer. I also asked for a box to return it in as I don't have anymore computer boxes. I didn't know they had stopped supplying computers.

I've heard that, too.... - (see message)

....that they've quit supplying computers. So, if they don't supply computers to new people, what do they do with all the old ones as people send them back? It would seem they have TONS of them!

If they DO still supply computers, looks like they'd be spending a fortune on all those computers flying back and forth, as much as people come and go (and go and go and go) with M*Modal!

I am working on sending back my equipment for MQ and just got the mailing slips in the mail today.  The sheet that comes along with it tells me I'm not required to send back the foot pedal, speaker, keyboard or mouse.  This makes no sense to me.....anyone been here before??  Did you just send everything back regardless??  Please help. ...

Just Sent My Precyse Equipment Back
Sep 19, 2010

I had a good account, but the account specifics were ridiculous.  The dictators were horrible and picky.  And Precyse catered to them.  I've never seen a health system so babied!  And the way the system was set up it made it impossble to go and make corrections on your own.  Once you finished it it was gone to the client...the picky client...Then Precyse has this weird way of computing your hours worked....almost like they penalized you for staying in the repor ...

Back To Work After Back Surgery
Aug 23, 2012

Hello, I would like to transcribe from home again. However, I HAVE to get up and walk for a few minutes at least once an hour. You see, I had to have 2 back surgeries in the last 18 months. I've been a transcriptionist for many years and this is my profession. Does anyone have a suggestion what to tell these companies that will hire you to work from home when you have to get up so much? The last company I tried had a "pop-up" box that appeared on my screen if you were up longer than 10 min ...

Mt Equipment
Apr 13, 2011

I have been doing outpatient surgery reports for a small hospital for four years.  They are outsourcing with a company that does voice recognition.  The ophthalmologist has talked to the OR manager and wants to use me for some other transcription (the hospital pays for what he does there).  I need to know the cheapest and best route to go since I only have computers, printers, and an Infinity foot pedal, as well as two transcribers that use microcassette tapes.  In order to p ...

All This Equipment We Have To Buy
Feb 16, 2014

why do they keep gouging us for this crap even though it should be painfully obvious to anyone with half a brain that your average MT has hardly any money for it? Amphion had told me that my workstation was not up to snuff, and after they specified what I needed, they told me *where to buy it*. I ended up sinking almost 300 bucks into it. Then, after working there for a couple weeks, they micromanaged me intensely, and after a performance review where I missed the mark by probably about a fra ...

Trouble With MQ Regarding Equipment
Oct 12, 2009

Hi everyone. I am having trouble with MQ regarding equipment and I'm hoping someone could maybe help me out here. I used to work for MQ and had returned my equipment after leaving. I was re-hired a few months later, but used my own equipment, therefore, never took anything back or received anything from them again. The returned equipment was returned over a year ago and I no longer have the receipt from UPS, as I never heard anything and had no reason to think there was a problem. Any ...

Hello.  I am looking for advice on equipment.  I need, well, almost everything,  I need a playback program, I don't like express scribe.  I am willing to spend money, I don't have a lot, but I want something good.  It doesn't have to be the best, but user friendly would be nice.  I also need a footpedal.  I have heard they are all the same, but I would like further input to the statement.  And, I must have a good pair of head phones.  ...

Returning Equipment To MQ
Apr 29, 2010

Recently resigned from MQ and received the mailing labels to ship back their computer and monitor.  However, per the letter, they don't require that you return the mouse, keyboard, and any other peripherals.  It doesn't say you will be charged for them -- it just says they want the computer and monitor. Has anyone left MQ and kept the keyboard and mouse?     ...

Equipment Meltdown - Help!

ADVISE ON EQUIPMENT
Sep 17, 2010

Hello, Can someone please tell me the best digital transcription machine to buy. I really do not know anything about digital transcribers. I am used to the cassette transcriber. Also, I heard there was a way to have a 1-800 number and the doctor can call that number and do the dictation over voicemail. Does that require any other software or equipment. I am not familiar with any of this. I guess I just really need to know the different ways I can do transcription. Thanks ...

Stenoscriptionist--same As MT With Different Equipment?
