I am being audited and since when do we not sm - mqmt

Posted: Jun 22, 2012

put a dash between 2 adjectives describing a noun such as African-American female and when did we start not putting a dash between 2 vowels such as intraabdominal and uteroovarian ligaments?  I am being marked down for this sort of thing?  I don't understand when did this start?

AHDI changed the African American rule. I've never put a dash - between intraabdominal or uteroovarian. NM

I disagree but thanks! nm - mqmt

you can disagree, but you are wrong - there is no hyphen

Read BOS rules.
BOS is BS. Whether "African-American" has a - hyphen or not doesnt affect pt. care! nm

Well I am being docked for things like that so nm - mqmt

It's obvious that the majority of "rules" are to take paid keystrokes away, and the "updated editions" are to make money. All in the name of supposedly benefiting MTs. I worked for 20+ years at a major well-known acute care facility and guess what, neither the 700+ doctors nor my company cared about BOS. You typed what was dictated, and the priority was on a readable, cohesive medical document. Errors were real errors, not hyphens, semicolons, or anything else that does NOT change the meaning of the sentence.
Thank you for your support! nm - ,q,t

I don't see how they can mark it other than a minor feedback. You cannot look up everything you type in the BOS book, it would you take you weeks to see if they changed it. Anyway, who do they think they are making rules for every stinking thing. I can see some like dangernous abbrev., but everything else is whatever you were taught if you had school or have been trained to do. I would definitely go over anyone's head if they marked it an error.

Hyphens - DiggerMT

I've always been taught that it was acceptable to transcribe either intraabdominal or intra-abdominal, depending though on client preference. I was also taught not to hyphenate African American, Native American, etc.

AUDIT - Nature

Both of the examples you gave are not correct. I even looked it up in my Steadman's Medical Speller. It shows intra-abdominal and utero-ovarian. I would call my CCM, and ask HER to look in her medical speller.

MModal uses BOS2, so therefore - you take out the hyphen

[ In Reply To ..]
Because that is the BOS2 rule.

The rules are being dumbed down - people do not like dashes anymore

[ In Reply To ..]
When I went to school 8 years ago and for the first 2 years of working, what you did was what I learned to do. However, over the years, the dash between African American was taken out, then the dash between double vowels, now recently they have taken out the dash next to cm (eg. 2-cm brain). The latter 2 really grate my nerves because they really make sense to be there. It also says not to use a dash when a dictator says something like "hypertension - uncontrolled," and to use a comma or period instead. I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid if the dash altogether. As an MME, its rare to see a dash used correctly anyway, I've seen the same MT/ME switch between proper use and improper use in a single report, like they know there should be one, but don't quite know when to use it.

I use dashes because with VBS, it gives me a - PAID keystroke, rather than unpaid. nm

The VR I do now always - hyphenates

[ In Reply To ..]
African American as well as always does diabetes type II. When I see VR making such mistakes constantly, I don't bother to change them.

It depends on your account - My account takes out the hyphens

There's no consistency in this company.

years ago - old school

These changes have been around for a few years now. BOS3 still makes the rules a lot of services use. Love it or hate it, it helps to have it so you can keep those QA scores up (sarcasm off).

I think these things get changed every 5 years just so MTs are kept off guard! LOL!

If they don't change the rules - how would they sell new copies of the BOS?

[ In Reply To ..]
If you don't get them free anyways.

I've never paid a cent for BOS (nor owned one or - even borrowed it). And NEVER WILL.

[ In Reply To ..]
We MTs can't afford to be wasting our money on foolish, useless things, and BOS is certainly both of those things.

when we quit typing numbers and putting periods - between R.N. and M.D.

[ In Reply To ..]
any anything else they could NOT pay us for :)

Which is precisely why I refuse to bow down to - BOS, and I still put them in.

S_ _ w those witches at AHDI, and the broom they rode in on.

Someone needs to melt them.

Being Audited?
Dec 11, 2009

Am I being audited?  Lately, I have had work show up in my QA'd in box that I have not submitted, but there is no score in the score column.  These aren't doctors that have previously been on 100% QA.  The corrections have mostly been little picky things, things corrected to something that is not per the client protocol  such as changing the patient's name to the patient or fixing what was verbatim to a better sentence (our accounts are verbatim).  ...

Re-audited
Dec 10, 2013

Just got an audit report. I noticed that the subject line said re-audit. Huh? Didn't even know I was in "trouble". I am the MT who failed an audit last week by 0.15%, and, I am also the person who got dinged for "adding" the word "and" when they claim the doctor said "uh". I passed this re-audit. Wonder if I will be audited again next week. I think I have been audited 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Twice since "failing". So, I have passed 2 out of 3 audits. ...

QC Being Audited?
Dec 17, 2014

Keep hearing that QA and QC are audited also.  Anyone willing to share info on that.  I am betting there is no way they are audited as strictly as we are and who the heck audits them anyway.  they audit each other?  that's sweet.  Seriously, anyone have info on their requirements to share. I feel like they are sitting in judgment on us and have control over our wages, but we are constantly told they are monitored too.  Will have to prove it to me.  I don& ...

My CCM Just Called. I Just Got Audited.
Jun 15, 2011

I hope this post quells some tempers and fears.  Obviously there are a lot of audits going on.  I got the call and my CCM said "just wanted to let you know that you are going great.  You were audited and are right where you need to be with quality and are above production level".  She said thank you very much and that she appreciated my hard work.  I asked her if she ever frequented this board, she said yes.  I told her about the firing posts and she said that peo ...

Had A 3-line Job Audited...

Does Everybody Get Audited Like Clockwork
Jan 06, 2012

maybe its my luck to have an extremely anal auditor, but find it hard to swallow I am getting dinged for a's and the's, therefore in a very long report (234 lines), I do not make the ridiculous 99%, like 98.75.  Every month I get audited, and I have complete confidence in my abilities and attention to detail, but not when I am micromanaged and held to a percentage that is unfair.  ...

Is Anyone Else Getting Audited Weekly??

How Do I Look Up An Audited Report?

Jobs Sent To QC1 ARE Post-audited
Dec 01, 2013

I found out last week that jobs submitted for blanks to QC1 can still be pulled for post-audit.  You have to double check your jobs submitted for QC1 against your post-audits because if you don't catch it you can and will be marked off on your post-audit for something the QC1 or QC2 reviewers made a mistake on.  This happened to me and it was reversed but my TSM told me they have no way of knowing which jobs have been to QC when they pull them.  Then you also have to make sur ...

99.7% Versus Number Of Lines Audited
May 07, 2014

Anybody know if there is a "standard" for number of lines to be audited on?  All of my audits have been for under 200 lines.  I never pass.  It seems to me that if you sample such a small number, you are more likely to have errors and thus fail an audit.  Are each of us being held to different standards as far as lines audited?  Are some people audited on 500 or 600 lines and others to a smaller number?  If we have to be held to 99.7%, shouldn't there be a cons ...

Question On Amount Of Audited Reports - Nuance
Jan 05, 2015
