Got open enrollment info - am I reading this right

Posted: Apr 21, 2011

I was on family UHC Choice and now being forced to MS HRA.  My deductable went from 1500 to 6000!!  Max out of pocket from 5000 to 20,000!!  Instead of paying a $25/50/100 copay for my doctor/specialist/ER visits, its 30% after the outrageous deductable.  But they cover routine physical 100% and they contribute $500...bah!  Fuming.

oh, and paying more too - am I reading this right

For just my son and I, $40 more a paycheck.

I've been on the HRA all this past year........ - Kiki1

I hated it so bad I was planning on going back to HMO, but apparently I'm not going to be able to as they are not offering that, just HRA. SUCKS! That 500 will be EATEN up FAST if you so much dare to step a toenail in any doctor's office. That "free" preventative care? PHOOEY! I got a pap smear that was supposed to be considered preventative; then I noticed my HRA account WAS charged ($80) so it's not really free. I mean, I didn't pay when I went in the office, but it still costs because it comes out of the 500 MQ puts in your account. Not liking this HRA plan. I guess it's okay ONLY as a catastrophic plan and for someone who rarely to never goes to the doctor.

Well, I am not going to a doctor unless I HAVE to, unless it's a life or death situation. They'll probably find me dead in my house one of these days/years....bc I was afraid to go to the doctor and get smacked with thousands of dollars I have to pay out of pocket.

Sigh, yes you're reading it right... - Big increase in empl. deduction

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm working full-time & OT when offered & still not making ends meet every month as it is!!!! I'm floored by this information. Sad news...

I know - the deductibles are outrageous

[ In Reply To ..]
It's only about a $6 hike per pay period for me and my daughter, but it is still a lot to pay to begin with. Sigh.

Going up more than you think - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Remember before, we had 24 pay periods a year, now we have 26 so there will be 2 more payments. Mine's going up $50 a month for HRA for only me. I think this may be Obamacare kicking in because remember we start paying for it now and for several years before the benefits start (which actually won't be a lot if you already have insurance other then your insurance company can't deny you coverage).

You're right about Obamacare - mt

[ In Reply To ..]
My payments will go up $80 per paycheck, almost $160 a month! Thanks Obama! How in the world does this help when pretty soon no one will be able to afford insurance? Then there are more and more people that need insurance coverage, who's left to pay for it? Great plan!

Believe it or not, - could have been worse

John McCain's health care plan would have made any money contributed toward health insurance premiums by the company taxable income to you. Yes, you would have had to report as income and pay income taxes on the money that MQ paid toward any insurance premiums or other benefits. Sad state, isn't it? And that may still happen with all the changes goign on in DC, who knows? All any of us want to do is make a living for ourselves and our families and it seems like we are knocked down every time we try to get up. Good luck to you all. I am so lucky to be on my husband's insurance, so all I participate in here is the dental and 401K. And that's just until I finish my degree and get the heck out of here.
Good plan. Get out of - school and get out of

received an email today about it. Says the ONLY option avail is that MS HRA, which I'm guessing is even more limited than last year's Choice Plus HRA. More limited, higher deductible, and increased payroll deduction.

God help any of us who happen to get sick in the coming months/years...

Any more information? - Sue

Anybody know where to get more detailed information on this MS HRA plan. All I found was the 3 pages which gives you the deductables and co-pays.

Pay more for less coverage - anon

My family and I have insurance through my husband's employer. The premiums have gone up and coverage has gone down. It is not just MQ doing this. The other day I took my daughter into our PCP for an ear infection, paid $73 for an office visit. Used to be we would pay a $25 co-pay and the rest was paid for.

Called the insurance company and they said we have to meet her individual deductable of $1000 before they would pay at 80% and that there is no longer a co-pay. Well... she maybe goes to the doctor 2-3 times a year. We are paying $400/month for family coverage. Told my husband we should drop the insurance and just pay for the office visit 2-3 times a year (would be cheaper). Of course, with our luck one of the kids would end up in the hospital for something and we would have to pay out of our own pocket. They have us coming and going!

Thinking of going back to full time, so I tried to check - elle

out the details since I am hearing such alarming, unaffordable numbers. Unfortunately, once you click on the HR link for info, you have to click on a second link which requires a password. I thought the HR link said it was the MQ Central password, but that didn't work.

At any rate - Here's a link about what HRA insurance is. In MQ's best financial interest of course and our nightmare.

A very very intersting read:
http://www.tasconline.com/biz-resource-center/plans/health-reimbursement-plan/

Guess I'll continue with visits to the county health care when I am in desperate need.

Even though we have *health insurance*, most of - us still cant afford to see a doctor! nm

Can't afford my copay on my current paycheck, and now its going to cost more? There goes the raise I finally got.

Forgot to mention - Adios

For any little unimportant thing, like a breast ultrasound because of question on mammogram, I had to go cash pay. To pay the amount to go towards my deductible was totally outside the realm of realistic on my pay. Thank God for cash pay or I would have had to take my chances. Sad.

How can anyone afford this? This is ridiculous!

insurance - leaving soon

[ In Reply To ..]
If this company wanted to keep good employes, they would offer an affordable health insurance plan. they obviously don't' care about us...at all....

its not just the Q... it is everywhere - my hubby has Etna (BCBS)

[ In Reply To ..]
and we pay 500 a month for the premium, we have a 6000 deductible, then after that is met, we have another 4000 deductible in medications, and then after deductibles are met, we still have to be 20% up 12,000.

How on earth will we ever be able to go to the doctor?

fuming mad!!! - a1typist

[ In Reply To ..]
What really frosts my cake is to go to the CBay website and see that health care is paid for entirely for employee and family in India!!!!! How irritating is that? We need the yoga that they pay for over there.....If this weren't so serious I would laugh.

Open Enrollment?
Oct 26, 2014

Anyone hear any rumblings yet about Open Enrollment?  Last year at this time we were already sent emails to "get ready" for it...so far this year, nothing.  I heard that other companies were making the spousal/partner "penalty" for not taking insurance was going to go up to $500!  We are now paying $100/month...let's hope that won't be the case, as that would essentially be one of my paychecks.  Wonder what surprises are in store for us.  Maybe we won' ...

The Straw That Broke The Camel's Back-insurance Open Enrollment

Well - I am finally moving!  Started applying to non-MT jobs this week.    Have known it, have been saying it, but just could not bring myself to do it.  We just did open enrollement for 2014.  I now am paying $430 a month for my spouse and I to get contracted insurance rates - because that (and the wellness benefits) are ALL that it covers (not even pharmacy) until we pay $7500 together, then it covers a WHOPPING 75% till we pay $12,500 for our max out of pocket.& ...

My Company Sent Out Health Insurance Enrollment
Nov 08, 2011

for a family plan will be in the range of $48K+ to over $50K per year. The company pays 3/4, something like $36,000+/year,  leaving me  about $1,000/per month to pay for the cheaper plan, $12k a year, for a policy with $2500 individual deductibles/$5000 per family before it even starts paying, plus copays. I wish I could get the company to pay me that $36K to go in the bank instead. If my husband had health insurance, I could go employee alone for $100/month (1/10th as much), but he ...

Nuance/Alphastaff Nightmarish Benefits Enrollment Mess
Dec 16, 2011

I have never seen such a disorganized operation. We've been getting forms periodically emailed. Many forms don't have adequate instructions on where they're supposed to be sent. State tax forms haven't been sent to everyone as they should have been. Some employees haven't even gotten news about what they'll be paid next year, and yet they're expected to choose benefits without knowing what they'll be earning. This has been incredibly stressful and unneces ...
