which is correct: Alzheimer disease or Alzheimer's disease? Addison's disease or Addison disease.

Per the TSG pg 14, we are to drop the 's on eponyms when it's followed by a noun as in "The patient has Alzheimer disease." If they just say "the patient has Alzheimer's" then you would leave the 's in.

These MTSOs insist everyone drop the s because some book tells them too. Yet I have yet to hear one doctor dictate it that way. I worked for 25 years for a 600+ doctor facility and we transcribed it just as the dictator said. It wasn't until I worked for a national MTSO that all of a sudden we have to drop the s because of some arbitrary 'rule'. If the dictator wanted it that way, they would dictate it that way.

that's what the BOS says BUT to me taking away "disease" is the very thing that makes Alzheimer's possessive. It always seemed like it should be the other way around... Alzheimer and Alzheimer's disease...what am I missing?

Ironically, an advertisement popped up on this site on the left side as I was reading this that said, "Alzheimer's disease."

I have verbatim accounts and I type it as dictated.

I was always told to type Alzheimer's as Alzheimer, which the second being what is correct in the medical dictionary (sorry it's late and can't remember the dictionary name, but the one they have us use). When I sent a report to QA with several blanks, there were several things "corrected" in the report, the above being one of them. Anyone know which is to be used?
