Regarding Hourly - They Upped Line Rate But... - SGSmt

Posted: Dec 01, 2011

... it is still not possible to make minimum wage even for those of us who edit VR at lightning speed, because there is no work during many of the shifts (mine).  I've been promised another account, told no other shift is available.  A line rate increase will not help me at all.  They have sent most of the work overseas now, lost a few accounts, and cannot afford to lose all US MTs.

I am aware of nine others besides me, who have lawyers. Quick, numerous complaints from MTs led to anything at all occurring, but lawyers say this is now an hourly paid service (all criteria met in 4 states), and that the company wouldn't have offered any increase at all if they weren't under pressure.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm going through with this.  They fired MTs this week with false reasons; I know three of them, and they were expert level QA/MTs with years of experience as QA/MT, and have been with the company for years, but they expressed opposition to the wage plummet, and we guess examples had to be set.

We have been told to block the MTs who were fired.  Communication between employees is DEFINITELY being discouraged (via email).

I've included the most recent email we received because I'd like to know who else received this email.  The board member relates that it is confidential, but there is nothing sensitive here.  Names and line amounts have been redacted, but if you want to know the amounts, email me (raised only one penny for VR).

Here is our latest email.  Let's see who gets fired next.  They can shove their penny per line.

Hi Team,

I wanted to touch base with each of you and let you all know to expect new offer letters tomorrow.

We have heard each of your comments and concerns in regards to the line rates each of you were offered as it is the same line rate as the top level MT.

As each of you were in the QA role and have been transitioned to the MT position, we are excited to roll out a special incentive to each of you based on your experience, dedications and level of expertise each of you bring to the table.  We have implemented this production bonus for each of starting 12/01/2011.

This is confidential and pertains to you as an individual as you were transitioned from QA to MT status.

As of 12/01/2011:  Rates will be xx.xx and x.xxx with the following incentive for all QAs offered MT positions:

The incentive will be the following:

0-1200 lines the editing rate will change to x.xxx
1201 to 2000 the editing rate will change to 0.042 for editing and 0.083 (standard type does not change)
2001 and above the editing rate will change to x.xxx

I understand this is a difficult time, but wanted to let each of you know your expertise is definitely appreciated and recognized.

Thank you!

Everywhere has such low pay for VR that you cannot make any money, the VR needs too much editing, the programs suck, the client profiles becoming longer than an encyclopedia, we cannot keep up anymore.

Yes & that's why it's not editing.. it's QA EDITING - WithYouOnThis

a guess that you would be next to be fired for posting confidential company correspondence on an internet chat board. Even though you redacted information concerning rates and the sender's name, the email would certainly be recognizable, and company managers, suits, and disgruntled former employees are known to peruse this board. I'm certain the company would take a dim view of your actions. I hope that is not the case....just sayin'.

Good for you! - raydonia

I say good for you for posting that e-mail. I am tired of being bullied and threatened for sharing information. By isolating us from one another, they make us feel like we are "doing something wrong" and "stirring up trouble" when we try to get fair treatment for ourselves and our coworkers. They HATE it when you communicate about your rate of pay, hours and so forth. But that is the only way to keep these companies honest, is to get the word out there and shed some light and air on the subject.

EXACTLY! and the post above u is an MTSO :-) - WithYouOnThis

..but I'm sure everyone knew that already. What MT would post such a thinly veiled threat?

Pay By Line Versus Hourly Rate
Sep 16, 2010

Hi all. I'm a newbie to these boards. I've been reading all the posts here about the VR programs.  More production + more hours = less pay. Does anyone here work for a company that has gone to an hourly rate instead of pay per line?  And if so, what are your thoughts/experience on this?  I'm working for a company that has changed us all over to hourly pay and I'm still very unhappy. ...

What's An Hourly Rate?
Dec 26, 2009

I am thinking of getting into medical transcription but all I read on here is negative posts about how little work is available and how you are all getting paid less than you were last year.  Now, please don't flame me, I know this is a cheeky question, but to be quite honest ".08 cpl" doesn't mean much to me.  Would anyone mind telling me what they actually earn per hour (when the work is there) and how many hours per day they generally work.  It will just give me an id ...

Hourly Rate Versus Cpl
Mar 01, 2011

Been at a cushy happy place clinic job for a few years, no audits, laid back, nice.  Making 18 d/h.  Type the same stuff, over and over.  Boring, but no nail biting.  I produce 300+/hr.  Should I take a position from home?  Will I be making a mistake? I need some opinions pleeease. ...

What's A Fairly Hourly Rate?
May 19, 2011

I've been out of the transcription loop for the last 2 years while I've been getting my registered nursing degree.   I did transcription for 20 years until I got tired of the nonsense.  I'm done with school, studying to take my boards, but have been offered an hourly part-time position.  Can someone tell me what hourly pay is going for now?   I was production paid for most of my transcribing years for the last few years I took an hourly employee ...

Average Hourly Rate
Jun 29, 2011

I'm re-applying to MQ as I desperately need a job.  My question is, are you all able to make at least $10.00 per hour still??  I ask because in searching around, it looks like $10.00 is the best I'm going to be able to do.  I do radiology so I will probably end up doing a lot of editing which I have never done before, so I'm just curious to see if $10.00 is realistic doing both straight typing and/or editing?  Any info appreciated.  Such a shame that its c ...

What Is A Fair Hourly Rate?
Mar 29, 2014

Can anybody please tell me what is a fair hourly rate for a transcriptionist in a single-doctor office in Texas? The last time I worked as an MT in a clinic was 18 years ago. I then worked for a large hospital and made about $9 more an hour than my highest clinic pay. After getting laid off, I worked for N for a few months and have been out of the MT field for a little over a year. Thanks in advance! ...

Is An Hourly Rate For QA/editor Unusual?
Jul 11, 2011

Also, how much experience do Account Manager/Shift Manager types have?  Years ago I worked for a couple of MTSOs and my "supervisors" had less experience than me (and would have to ask me to figure out blanks in reports) so I'm guessing its often just a matter of how long you've been there and who you know and sometimes how much you're willing to put up with (one supervisor bragged that she worked about 20 hours a day). ...

Update On Fair Hourly Rate Question
Apr 05, 2014

Last week I asked what you all thought was a fair hourly rate for a one-doctor clinic MT. I went to the interview on Tuesday. The job ad was for a "medical records transcriptionist." The office uses an EMR. The nurse practitioner uses the EMR, but the doctor uses a piece of paper that resembles the EMR screen and checks the appropriate boxes and writes additional comments. The job is to take those papers and input the data in the EMR. It's not actual transcription, no headset or foot pedal ...

Line Rate For 65 Printable Character Line
Jul 19, 2011

When a company states a line rate for  a "65 printable character line" does that mean they do not pay for spaces?    I saw an ad saying they pay the highest in the business, which was about 8.5 cents for 65 printable character line.  That to me says without spaces, as it is not a printable character, so that would be a horrible rate surely not one of the best in the business.  Wonder why there is no respect for our thumbs !!!!   ...

PT Line Rate Cut
Nov 25, 2009

I  know a lot of us wonder what the reason is for PT status MTs to lose 1/2 cpl.  We have been told that it is because at some point we could possibly switch to FT.  If our bank, where we have our checking and savings accounts would send us a letter telling us that starting next month we would have to start paying $200 per month for our house payment, even though we do not own a house, but this was just in case some day we might, I think we would all tell that bank they were nuts ...

ASR Line Rate?
Feb 04, 2012

I was told that if they have to keep supplementing your paychecks to get you to mini wage then they will have to take action.  What is the logic here?  On the accounts that I work on I have yet to break 160 lines an hour and mostly stay around 150. I swear it just can't be done.  All I get is ASR.... so here is the math... 150X.04 (I think) = $6.40 The requirement to keep my job is only 120, so really I am doing 40 more lines than I should.  Here is what I need to ...
