Opinions on best audio booster - justme

Posted: May 16, 2014

I wanted to find out what were some of the better audio boosters? I've had long-term positions and never needed one before.  At my new hospital, I have three docs who apparently are afraid of anyone hearing what they say, including the one typing the report.  Thanks for any recommendations!

I have tried a couple that are audio programs - you load on computer. SM

Is that what you want?

I have one now that I love and am going to buy: "Breakaway" and if you do a google search for "audio booster programs" there are several.

I tried one called DFX and didn't like it.

Most of them have a 30-day free trial, that's what I'm using on Breakaway right now. It's safe to download, though you may be reminded by the program to buy it to get all the features, etc, etc.

I almost downloaded this today but - IM

saw a complaints from people saying that the program contained unwanted adware/virus. The reviews were at the CNET web site. So strange other people wrote reviews they loved it??

Get a Boosaroo. Plugs into a sound port on the computer and also use it with my cell phone. Buy it online or Radio Shack. Great little device.

That should read Boostaroo. Sorry. - nm

Mine just arrived yesterday. Although I had doubts about it originally, it's really growing on me. Things are so much clearer.

Bayscribe - Is There A Volume Booster?
Jul 10, 2011

I always seem to have issues with being able to get the audio up to a comfortable volume on the Bayscribe platform.  I don't think it's an issue with my computer, as my other platforms have volumes that are just fine. Is there a volume booster somewhere on Bayscribe besides the obvious up and down button on the audio player that I'm overlooking?  I have all the settings up to maximum on my computer as well as having the audio player volume all the way up to no avail. TIA t ...

Sound Booster Question
Mar 13, 2012

I just bought a Boostaroo sound booster last weekend.  I like that I can plug up to 3 headphones in it (as I use a couple different ones for different types of dictation).  What is troubling me, is the first time I used it, I had my computer control volume settings where I wanted them (sound, wave, etc.) and any adjusting I did in my platform volume control was separate (so any added volume was additional), or at least that is the way it appeared it was working. Yesterday when ...

Laptop Wifi Booster
Mar 02, 2015

I bought myself a laptop recently in order to be able to work away from home every now and then.  I'm interested in anyone who does this and, specifically, I'm looking for a good wifi booster to use in places like RV parks, camp grounds, etc. where the wifi signal might not be strong enough for me to be able to do my job.  I appreciate anyone who might be willing to point me in the right direction. ...

Audio
Aug 10, 2010

I am a "newbie."   I have tested for 2 small companies and the audio was so bad I just couldn't hear enough to transcribe.  Are all dictations this bad, or is it just some of them?   The parts I could understand were fairly simple, but the audio sounded like a tape recorder when you are holding down rewind and play at the same time.  I am just curious.  Maybe my hearing is just not what it should be.   Appreciate any response, ...

Pay For Audio
Apr 27, 2012

in contacting a general transcription company for work, I was told "a one-on-one interview, 60 - 90 minute tapes, generally generates $40-$45 per tape."  does this seem like a low figure??  I don't know much about these types of dictations. They said most transcriptionists complete one 60 to 90 minute tape per day.  so how long do you think it would take to complete 90 minutes of two people interview and is $45 too low for that type of work??  just asking.  ...

Pay Per Hour Of Audio
Apr 22, 2010

I'm looking at a job that pays 50-55 dollars per recorded hour of audio.  This is interview or straight dictation transcription.  Does this sound okay?  I'm thinking if it takes me 2 hours to transcribe an hour, that wouldn't be such a bad deal.  I'm just not sure how long it would take me.  I do transcribe very fast...shortcuts are used for medical but can implement for this type of transcription as well.  Just not sure that the pay is reasonabl ...

Pay Per Audio Hour
Dec 15, 2011

How long does it take to transcribe 1 audio hour of dictation?  When I started, I was told we should average it as 10 minutes per every hour, but 10 minutes seems low to me now.  It would probably take me about 20 minutes to do a 10 minute job today, with proofing and looking up words, etc.  Then again, if you are learning something new, that might not be so unrealistic.  Just looking for opinions on this from those who have done it.  Keep in mind, I would be doing non-m ...

Terrible Audio
Aug 18, 2013

I have been having exceptionally bad audio lately from normally good dictators and wonder why. Could this be another cost cutting measure somehow, or maybe they okayed docs to dictate under water or in their car or wherever on old crappy cell phones or something? It's bad enough to have to face the daily FIESA attack, but to take double the time to get through a report because of horrific audio is just the icing on the cake. Anybody else find this? Frustrating when you are trying to speed ...
