When applying for a job and sending a resume as requested by the ad, is it not good etiquette to receive at least a confirmation email stating the resume has been received?  How many days should one expect to wait for a confirmation email?  I sent out 2 resumes, 2 days ago, to 2 different companies, and received no confirmation whatsoever from either.  The second day, I sent them both another email, asking for confirmation of receipt of resume, and still no reply.  Are they really that busy?  Or just that rude?

They probably receive hundreds of resumes a week and don't have time to acknowledge receipt of every one. Chances are, by day 2 they haven't had a chance to review it yet. Vacations and illness sometimes get in the way. Even brick and mortar employers don't acknowledge receipt of every resume. With the MTSOs, what I have found is that out of the blue they will send an invitation to test, or maybe an e-mail saying that they like your qualifications but are not currently hiring. My suggestion would be to give it at lesst a week, and then if you haven't heard anything, if it's somewhere you really want to work, contact them one more time and then move on if they don't respond.

I have applied with many companies (not just MTSO) over the last month or so, I always at least get an automated response, however, not to often a rejection to resume response. I am still getting used to this day and age of applying for a job over the internet. Takes some getting used to.

That's still no excuse. How hard is it to simply send - at least a generic response? -sm

A click or two of the mouse, and they could send hundreds, or thousands, all at once.

It doesn't matter, either if hundreds of people apply for one job. Behind each of those hundreds of applications is a live HUMAN BEING WHO NEEDS A JOB.

the future, I would never apply to them again, and couldn't bother to work for them. If a company treats APPLICANTS so rudely, imagine how much they must suck at how they treat their EMPLOYEES!

I see your point, but the OP stated that it had only been 2 days. The people receiving and reviewing those applications are human beings too, don't lose site of that. Stuff happens; people take vacations, get sick, get called away to meetings, whatever. I know they're swamped with applications. I've applied for non-MT jobs too. Many places clearly state either on their web site or on the application that they don't have time to respond to every resume. Two days is too soon to expect a reply, IMO. Give it at least a week and then start making inquiries. You don't always need to wait for them to approach you, make assumptions and accuse them of being rude when you may not know the whole story.

auto-reply set up to respond to emails or resumes...who knows how long it can take.

There may be a couple hundred in their mailbox and yours could be #150 on the list.

I was a recruiter for a large national MTSO before it was gobbled up by you-know-who a few years ago.

We turned off our auto reply because it was not impersonal, but also there were ones that were not supposed to be acknowledged. At that time, we were very specific about not responding to offshore resumes or inquiries. At least half the responses were either offshore MTs or offshore companies soliciting business. Many were from newbies, although our ads also were very specific about experience required. Another was that about 20% were ICs that were looking for IC positions, and we only hired employees, also very clear in our ads. Lastly, about 20% of resumes recieved had very obvious typos; those were automatically shredded. I know that sounds harsh, but when applying for any job, a resume should be error free. When applying for a transcription position, it was required.

I agree that most should be acknowledged, but it can take a few days to sort through the hundreds of replies to an ad, and even longer to narrow down the search to those who are qualified.

I miss recruiting in many ways, but there are some people out there who are downright nasty, even when applying for a job!

It seems whenever I go to the doctor we get to talking about my profession, mainly because I am speak to them on their level (with medical terms, etc) because they are amazed that I am so informed.
