Doctors out of office and vacation time - ctype1

How do you handle this???

I have a few clients that don't tell me when they will not be in the office and then right before they go away everything becomes a STAT. How can I make them understand that without them being there I am losing time and money and that if I knew I could have made alternate plans.

Any advice would be great!

How about you "just tell them" what you "just told us." - sounds easy enough

Just state that you would like advance notice of vacations so that you can make plans accordingly.

Been there done that. Works for a short period of time and then back to the old ways.

Could you send monthly email saying you just want to check - on work load, verify if there will be any

decreased or increased in the work load and is there any anticipated days with not work or increased work. Say you just want to tighten up your personal work schedule every month.

I work for a MTSO but right before the summer -sm - Zorro

and beginning of December I ask all my contacts for each doctor when he/she is taking off. This way in the summer I try to work it so my family vacation is the same week as theirs so I don't have to give away so much work. Sometimes I get lucky and 2 docs are off in the same week. One office gives me a monthly schedule as they usually take one day off a week, though it is usually the same day every week, sometimes it is a different day. So nice to know ahead of time for sure, though they don't always stick to it. So they only way you are going to know is to ask them directly. Do it every month if you have to, just shoot them an email and ask if the doctor has any time off scheduled in the near future. You do it enough times they may start telling you without your asking.

Charge extra for the stats - That should be done anyway

I'm starting with a new company next week. My Windows 7 PC has Office 2013 Professional. The new company's platform is only compatible with 2010 or earlier. I don't have the money to spend on 2010, so I'll either have to decline the offer or try to find a way to install 2010 cheaply. I thought I might be able to download a version for free, since it's not the newest version, but it doesn't look like I can do that. Any ideas? ...

I've been in this business for 30 years, but am under employed at the moment and am starting to get bored to tears with having so little work to do. But, it seems that all of the ads that I see are looking for full time transcriptionists.
