Do you try to dress somewhat professionally when working at home? - cardmt

Posted: Dec 22, 2014

Or just stay as comfortable as possible? I usually try to stay somewhat professional as it just seems to make me feel a little more in working mode.  Some days are just sweat pants type days.  Especially with the colder weather coming up, I tend to be more interested in just staying warm and comfortable.

No, every day is - casual(est) Friday at my house (nm)

Nope. Jeans, sweatshirt & warm slippers for me. - My cats dont care how I dress.

Love my yoga pants. They are so forgiving, lol. Bloated? Holiday weight gain? No problem. Jeans or button up/zipper pants aren't so inviting, especially when you're sitting all day. Yoga pants are like..." hey.. c'mon in... there's plenty of room in here."

I like my tight jeans because they're a constant - reminder to exercise & watch my diet.

One thing I miss about working on site is dressing up nicely each morning and heading off to work. Not crazy-nice, mind you, but black knit pants and knit top, very comfy. On the other hand, one of the BEST things about working from home is being able to wear whatever I want and not having to worry about a clothes budget, gas budget, or lunch.

On Saturdays, when I don't have to take my kids to the bus stop, I don't even get out my pajamas until noon!

Ha, I haven't changed that much yet, but like I said... - OP

Now it's getting so much colder, I have relaxed a bit and probably will even more from here on out (since I got a taste of dressing casually recently!). I only dress the way I do because of the way it makes me feel, but I'm thinking my work won't suffer in more casual outfits!

The one who never wears the yoga pants and - yep I will do a little more for hubby but

[ In Reply To ..]
I would be willing to bet you anything I have what you could only wish for, a husband like mine. You probably would never be able to find one like him, 1 in a million, well worth the little effort I put into not looking like I just crawled out from under some rock or an unkempt look. Just for the info, I wear comfortable pants, just not my PJs and some other yoga or sweats or whatever others choose to do. I can understand now why others on here bash their husbands. Maybe if the wife put a little more effort into how she looks (or smells for that reason) there would not be so many men put down here. JS.
I'm sorry you have to - sm

.. do certain things to keep your husband happy. I don't spend my extra time putting on lipstick and under eye concealer. I don't really need to. I DO spend my extra time working out though, which is why my derriere DOES look so good in my yoga pants. Honestly, I can't even wear regular pants anymore even if I wanted to. I buy all of my jeans from a website that caters to ladies with small waists and ample rears, and they're pricey, so I'll be damned if I'm going to sit around wearing them while typing medical reports and cooking dinner. Squatting 200 lbs for 6-8 reps/5-6 sets a couple times a week along with a few sets of lunges and deadlifts does wonders for the figure. My husband is very pleased with my muscular, athletic physique. I look good in fancy dresses, yoga pants, and butt naked. However, here's the kicker... I do that stuff for ME.. not him. It just so happens he reaps the benefits as well. Don't assume that just because somebody doesn't wear slacks and blouses or paints their lips everyday with lipstick that they're walking around with crotch rot and ratty hair or something. Jeez... judgmental much lady?

ETA: I'd also like to add that the fact that my husband loves me for me and would NEVER infringe upon my comfort zone or make me feel that my natural self is sub par is a testament to what an awesome partner he is. I have never felt pressure from him to be anything but me, and he calls me beautiful like it's my name.

I do lower weight/higher rep but similar result. 50 and loving my bulge-y boooootay!

And, I don't have a SO, so I also do it for ME.

Good for you! Keep up the good work and the good attitude, both you and your hubs. Love, love, love it.

Lifting is the fountain of youth! - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I wouldn't trade my 40-year-old body for my 20-year-old body if you paid me! lol. I've been seriously lifting for 4 years and dabbled a bit for a few years before that. This is the best my body has ever been (appearance & health-wise), and I'm 40 years old and have had 5 children. It truly is the fountain of youth for me! ;)

I've lifted for years (squats dead lifts, heavy weight but my butt got smaller, thank goodness. FYI, that's genetics, and not enough cardio.
What's genetics and not enough cardio... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
... smaller butt or bigger butt? I LOVE that I actually have a butt now. Squats builds up the glutes so obviously if the glute muscles are getting bigger, the butt is going to get bigger as well especially if you're starting out with a thin build to begin with. My butt is bigger than it used to be, and my waist is a little smaller than it used to be (was already small to begin with, so not much to lose). I do strength 6 days a week and cardio 5 days a week (HIIT 3 days and sustained 2 days). Cardio in evening and strength in the morning. Genetics ain't got a thing to do with this right here... W-O-R-K <---That's it. I hate when people use the "genetics" excuse. Work. Hustle. Kill. Eat clean, lift heavy, sleep sound, repeat. It's a pretty simple idea really... may not be so easy to execute though. Mind over matter baby. ;)
You are amazing - Me too
[ In Reply To ..]
I train just as hard as you do but my butt got smaller, I am a small person, however. Normally, squats do not make a person's butt big, it's probably reshaped and maybe your tiny waist makes it look bigger. As an experience lifter, you should know that there is no such thing as spot reduction or spot gaining. I worked with a personal trainer and you can ask a trainer or do your own research. Diet, sitting on your can and yes heredity all play roles in one's body shape. Muscle takes up less space than fat, and I doubt that your backside is solid muscle, just saying.
Who said anything about spot training? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I never said anything about spot training. Where did you see that? Do you actually think I workout as much as I do for a specific shape of butt? Good Lord.

I have a muscular physique... it's not just my butt. Squats absolutely, unequivocally change the shape of your butt. I'm not making this stuff up here. I worked out doing ONLY cardio for years before I ever picked up weights. I was lean but not muscular. My entire body, not just my butt, completely transformed once I started using the weights. Once I began to go as heavy as I could, things changed even more. For example, I can't just walk into a store and buy a ladies long sleeved button up shirt and expect it to fit. If it fits in the waist, It won't fit in the chest, shoulders, and especially the arms. I NEVER had that issue when I did just cardio. My arms are bigger. My butt is bigger. My legs are bigger. It doesn't really matter what you *think* you know about my body... it is what it is. I'm pretty sure I know my body better than you do, just sayin.

Sheesh... some people will argue about anything.
How I feel about this.... - Mary

Do you not have any idea how hateful and ugly your posts are? I don't care if you are the most outwardly beautiful woman on earth. If you are this ugly on the inside (especially to other women), then you are just as ugly on the outside. Your posts are insulting with a tone of superiority (because make you wash your every morning as if we don't?). And for what it's worth, your husband could never hold a candle to mine, especially since he does not judge me if I don't put fricking undereye concealer on to disguise dark circles. He loves my dark circles and every inch of my entire being. You sound like you are very insecure about yourself, and I can picture you now, rushing to the makeup chair to "beautify" yourself for your husband. You are stuck in the 1950s, and you need to take a really long, close look at yourself, because you are sadly wanting in the "beautiful" category.

inline skating and roller skating, and still do it at age 65, with no plans to stop. Can't ask for a better total-body workout, nor a better social life. We have connections with others who love to roll - all over the world!

What I like about it is it gives me a grace in movement and enjoyment of speed that I normally don't have. Yes, here are occasional injuries, but they're milk in comparison to the injury we do to our bodies if we don't get out there and do stuff. Unlike the old lady in the TV commercial who has "fallen and can't get up", when THIS old lady falls, she laughs and bounces right back up.

"Keep on rolling!"
(Laughing at my typos! I meant "mild", - not "milk"!) I crack myself up.

Butt Naked - x

[ In Reply To ..]
That's the way I roll. Get out of bed, into the shower, shave the 'ol arm pits, legs and nether regions, lotion all over, dry my hair after carefully conditioning it and brushing it 100 times exactly. Then turn up the heater and begin to work.

This way I'm aware of my weight without having to pull on tight jeans, and I'm comfortable without having to wear yoga pants. And it cuts down on the interruptions because I certainly am not going to answer the door or take a Skype call when I'm au naturale!

my work clothes are jeans and old T-shirts. Shorts and vests in the summer, when I don't wear a bra. I do still wear my bra in the winter. I wear flip flops in the summer and socks in the winter, and keep a pair of shoes nearby in case I need to go outside. There's no reason to get all dressed up to sit at home. Oh, I do still put on makeup every day and wash my hair but that's just because I like to look nice. And girls, I recommend fingerless gloves. How I love my fingerless gloves in winter! you can get them on Amazon, cheap.

Thanks for the suggestion about the gloves! - cardmt

[ In Reply To ..]
I just looked them up and ordered some the other day, so it's good to hear they're worth it! I have trouble with circulation from a medication I'm on for migraines so my extremities are usually freezing cold and I need these to help with that!

I love my fingerless gloves, too! They're - just a plain old knitted pair - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
that I got in a teen-fashion-type store for $5. Keeps those arthritic old knuckles hummin' right along. In winter I often wear them all day, even when not typing. Only taken them off to wash the dishes.

Thanks for the recommendation - OP

[ In Reply To ..]
I was thinking about getting some regular fingerless gloves just to have since my hands are always so cold, so I'll probably do the same thing!

nope - yeah right

[ In Reply To ..]
No, I roll out of bed about 5 to 15 minutes before my shift starts, brush my teeth, wash my face and type in my pajamas. Later I take a shower and then after work, off I go to the gym!

To the OP - It makes no difference

[ In Reply To ..]
So what you are saying is some days you wear sweat pants and some days you don't, thanks for the insight.

Honey, they have courses/books/blogs on reading comprehension - that may be of help to you

[ In Reply To ..]
Why in the world are you jumping down my throat? This was a fun, noninflammatory question to hear how other people handled their own work days. I said that I dressed somewhat professionally for MY OWN happiness and comfort, but with cold weather may relax. Where you got your interpretation from reading that statement, I have no clue. Stay happy... it's an easier lifestyle.

Working From Home?

Hello,   Im just finishing up a medical transcription course/certification program with Allied schools, and I was wondering if there are any of you MT's working from home or are most of you working in a hospital?  Also have any of you done the online certifications and if you did how did you get some experience under your belt to help you with the job?  I was a veterinary technician for years, so I sort of knew what I was getting into, but it has turned out to be a little mo ...

What I Don't Like About Working At Home Right
Mar 02, 2010

now is that I would really love to tell somebody off!! Yes, I know that may sound childish, but this company has put my stress level through the roof, my blood pressure through the roof, and their BS has me so pissed off, if I were in an office where they were I would find great satisfaction in letting them have it verbally, not in writing.  Yes, I would be fired on the spot, but it would be so worth it.  It's just not the same when they don't have to face someone in person.& ...

Everyone says "I would love to work from home".  Working from home has been having negative effects on me.  I've been doing this for 12 years.  I never used to have anxiety or depression.  Now, I do.  This job is so isolating.  I'm sick and tired of staying home in my PJs.  I try to get out of the house as much as possible, but little trips to the grocery store is not cutting it.  I get depressed staying home all the time.  I lack a social l ...

Getting In A Rut Working From Home

Becoming pretty much inactive, get up, login and work. Get off, turn on the TV and lay down or maybe spend a few hours on your favorite website. As far as making meals, they are far and few between because you eat in between working, breaks or just grab something totally unhealthy when you get off. Can go a couple of days without showering, lounging in pajamas, maybe groom and fix up once a week to go out for errands. House hold chores suffer because of lack thereof. My bedroom is a t ...
