Good sites to search for coder jobs besides Monster and Careerbuilder? - Squarepeg

Anybody know?

Job boards - Anonymous

[ In Reply To ..]
AAPC (American Assocation of Professional Coders) has a job board. Also, try the AHIMA website. Go to the job boards of the hospitals and health care facilities in your area, get your name placed on their "job alert" e-mail list.

Medical professionals do not use Monster and Careerbuilder - for the most part

Coding jobs are usually kept within house, so to speak. Look on AAPC and AHIMA, as mentioned, and on hospital and healthcare facility websites. Network at local AAPC chapter meetings, where they usually announce local jobs. You can find the contact for them on the AAPC website.

USAJOBS.GOV has coding positions listed under "medical record technician" (? job class 645? )and "medical record administrative specialist" (job class 669)

Others are insurers, universities, etc.

Do not expect to see a lot of entry level jobs. You can overcome the experience requirement with credentials, though. At least CPC, with a CCS for hospitl coding.

Thanks so much! - Squarepeg

Most coding jobs are posted on hospital JOBS boards but not elsewhere - sm

Coding jobs usually aren't posted on typical job web sites. They might use a professional source that a CCS would normally read, but they usually don't post everywhere. They would be drowning in applicants who didn't have their CCS but knew they could do the job anyway. Same thing with CPC of course.

I just remember medical temp staffing agencies - Squarepeg

They probably also staff coders, I guess?

It's possible that some do occasionally - nm

Hmm. In all my years of working in HIM in various capacities - MT

I've never heard of any of the 4 hospitals I've worked for getting coders via temp staffing agencies. Maybe doctors' offices or little ancillary clinics do?

I think your best bet is keeping an eye on your local hospitals' job boards, being active in your local AAPC/AHIMA chapters (word of mouth/networking), and indeed.com.

I'd even go so far as to call the HIM or coding manager at your hospital and introduce yourself. Let her/him know of your existence. It's been my experience that they are near desperate for certified coders, so they'd be thrilled to hear from you.

Lots of coding jobs on Indeed, an aggregator site - nm

Don't believe the career advice on Indeed.com. - Coder

If you want to look at the jobs there, fine, but don't bother with the discussions. The info there is generally awful. It is outdated, opinionated, misinformed, off-target, and sometimes apears to be deliberately misleading. Anyone can post whatever drivel they may like.

oh WOW just found an incredible site - Squarepeg

it's a directory of every hospital in the US, with the links to each of their websites, where you can then look up the jobs.

That's phenomenal! Where or how did you find it? - nm

Another Good Site To Search For Coding Jobs: Twitter

Yep, you read that right: Twitter. I have an account and just now I did a search at the top of the page, and you wouldn't believe all the results that came up, local results from different parts of the country posting coding jobs. It's great. So that's just FYI for y'all. ...

Is There A Search Engine That Searches Just Medical Sites?
Feb 23, 2011

I am not sure what's going on of late, but I don't seem to get relevant search results when I use G. I search for a medical word, but get results from sites that have nothing to do with medicine. I end up questioning the credibility of these search results and have to research more. Needless to say, I've been losing money spending so much more time researching words. Sometimes, I just wonder if I could have access to a medical search engine to cut out the non-medical stuff. Anyone ...

Radiology Good Reference Sites
Apr 07, 2011

I am SO excited.  I just received a call from a local hospital for an interview tomorrow for an full-time inhouse transcriptionist radiology position.  I am not sure yet if they pay by the line or the hour; I hope it is hourly then I would know exactly what my pay will be instead of by the line since  you never know from one pay period to the next how muych it will be.  Believe me, this is rare as I live in the middle of nowhere and 3 hospitals that are within driving distanc ...

Good Drug Research Sites?
Apr 27, 2012

Hi all. I'm wondering what sites are your favorite for drug researching? The main issue right now is a sentence that has me wondering. It says: "The patient has no known allergy for the s/l listed." I've never heard it put that way before. He must be talking about the meds the patient usually takes, but, if he's been taking them, of course he has no allergies to them! This is a separate sentence as I have it in caps. Do you need anything else? I have tried looking up anything tha ...

Are Remote Coder Jobs Hard To Find?
Apr 14, 2014

I am a MT/VR considering training for Coding/Billing and wondering how hard it is to get a remote coding job or if I would be limited to finding a position in an office, hospital, etc.  I enjoy working from home, but in the past few years, just cannot make a decent living anymore.  Thanks for any info you can give me. ...

The Search For A Good MT...
Jun 15, 2010

I am just really troubled about this post that good MTs are hard to find.  While I agree there are bound to be some people that are not cut out for the MT business, I am just wondering how long MTSOs are going to allow that standard to continue.  This is some of my experience: I have been hired by a MTSO that has been in business for 10 years yet not 1 single MT in the office. No one had a clue as to the account specs or ever worked on the platform. There ...

Basic Question Here: I Believe I Have The Ability To Be A Good Coder
May 20, 2011

it's subpar. And I'm getting older. I'm still sharp, though, and analytical, plus a fast, accurate reader. How badly would need to consult references a bit more than average or inability to count cards without taking notes affect me in this field? BTW, I'm currently editing and have always been very good at anything I take on. Thanks for any input. ...

I Just Wanted To Say Not To Give Up On A Search For A "good" MTSO
Nov 15, 2013

I have been looking for work since July. I recently started with Babbletype, even though their reputation on here was awful, but, I try to look at things from both sides. I mentioned my experience with them in a post below, so I am not going to reiterate it here. The other thing as well, is I have been waiting for my pay to be deposited into my PayPal account, which it should have been done on Wednesday and it still is not there. Not a heck of a lot, but when you need small things, every lit ...

Any Good MT Jobs Out There?
Jan 30, 2015

All I ever seem to read here is how terrible the MT profession has become.  I agree that I am making less now than I was many years ago mostly since the majority of work has switched over to editing VR, which pays less.   I just want to know, though, are there companies worth working for?  ...

According To Monster We're Doing It All Wrong
Jun 27, 2014

I got an email from Monster today that said what we are supposed to do is job hop, see? We stay with a company for about three years and then we go to another company where we can command a greater salary, see?  If we stay where we are we'll have to keep settling for these measly 3% raises (I'm laughing as I type this, haven't had a raise in many years), oh no, if we job hop, at the next company we can expect to start out at a much higher level than what we are making right n ...

It's A Real Shame That These Big, Bad Monster MTSOs-
Feb 26, 2015

have to offer sign-on incentives to get MTs to apply for work. Obviously they aren't real up on what is being said on these boards about their company and could care less as long as clients are lining their pocket with the money. As long as we work for slave wages nothing is going to change. I am in the same boat as a lot of the MTs, barely getting by. I just had to say... this is my 2 cents worth ...
