Medscribe in Jax, FL - KT

Posted: Jun 04, 2011

Anyone know what is going on with Medscribe?  There has been little to no work for weeks now with promises of more work coming in. I know they have lost a few accounts but even the accounts still there seem to be dictating a lot less than what they normally do so I wonder if they are headed on their way out too.  Today I heard a rumor they might be sending work to another company to handle overflow and that is why the work has dried up.  Has anyone else heard this? I can't believe that is the case but I just don't understand where the work is going.

Back in the day, I was told the accountant owner also... - ndmt68

owned another transcription company. Maybe if you Google his name you could come up with it. It seems like it was in the Southeast on the coast, but I cannot remember the name for the life of me.

there was a post on here within the last 2-3 months - hmmm

about the owner and some comments he was quoted in a journal/newspaper. There were comments with that post about the company if the OP will look for that post.

Here's a link to that very article... - Hayseed

I remember it well because it burned my biscuits a lot LOL! I wouldn't want to work for that dude after reading that piece.

Click on the link I posted below to go directly to that article.

The article posted on their website is a VERY WATERED DOWN version of the original one I read last year when it first came out. What has been omitted was the fact that he really ragged on his employees, basically insinuating they had to be babysat in order to be productive, and that's what frosted my buns. It's funny those little sentences are missing...

If I can find the original untainted article, I will post the link to that as well. I think it was originally provided by some AHDI website.

Was that the article referring to an MT approaching him and asking if the MT's would be paid to attend the Christmas party...and he has some contraption that monitors the MT to ensure that she's working...?

That contraption to monitor the MT sounds very creepy. Does the MT know she is being monitored? If not, is there a legal issue with that? Dang, where's the ACLU when you need 'em!

Note to creepy dude: You can tell if you MTs are working by their line counts.

Here ya go, for your reading pleasure :)

A juicy quote that says what we all know our employers think of us:

"âThey really think theyâre invisible,â Langley chuckles.

âOur software tracks every keystroke they make,â Langley says. Employees connect to MedScribeâs data center through the Internet and transcribe doctorâs digitally recorded narratives about their patients.

Because doctors work around the clock, Langley needs to be sure transcribers who are supposed to be on the job are actually doing the work. Employees clock in with a âWeb clockâ and the system boots them out if theyâve stopped working for longer than five minutes. âI know what theyâre not doing,â Langley says."
Thanks for bringing back that article. I missed it the first time. What a sour tone! (sm) - AgingMT

What a one-sided slant on what MTs do! I think it takes nerve to brag how he doesn't have to provide office space or computers, and at the same time chide transcriptionists for taking a break from computer THEY pay for, the office space THEY pay for, in their dwelling THEY pay for!

And what about "employees are more productive because they only have to type "m" and "i" to get myocardial infarction? Does he provide that software? And even if he does, he notes that MTs have to produce quality work or they don't make the cut (thus need for research, etc), yet paid by the line - - We have to have a way to make money somehow!

When I worked in a hospital MT department and then for an on-site service, I can't count the number of interruptions I would have in my shift- running reports to the floor, doctors stopping by to look over my shoulder while I transcribed a stat, co-workers asking for word help, answering the phone, taking the tapes from the courier when the office manager was out, etc., etc.

I work for a company that uses sign-in software. I don't mind that so much. It helps keep me on task. But the attitude of that guy - GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

OK! I'm awake now!

I totally agree. I read the article when it was first printed and got angry too. I remembering posting a comment on that newspaper website at the time that was never posted. There are 2 ads (recent dates) on another job board for MedScribe, so they are still advertising for employees.

I probably should have worded that more appropriately (I don't want to receive an E-mail reprimanding me that I need to "tell the truth," like one poster received).

The contraption to which I refer is actually a Web clock.

Sorry, I just could not resist! Just trying to add a little wry humor to the morning.
We are "monitored" at Precyse. They know every keystroke, - everything we do and whether or

not we are on the system working, on the internet, or doing nothing. if we're idle for 10 minutes, it shoots us a warning telling us so and we'll get kicked off in 5 minutes. We have a time clock to punch in and out and if the times you punch in/out don't jive with the time you sign in/out of the system, you'll hear about it eventually. They send us a keystroke analysis every couple of weeks that is supposed to be helpful for our production, shows us where we need improvement. I don't do things their way with control and alt keys, etc., and I pay no attention to it. So, you know if they can tell you're not using their recommended keystrokes, they know exactly what keys we're touching. They can tell everything we do. Not a problem. It's their equipment and expect you to adhere to your schedule and work while you're signed in. If you need a break, you sign off, punch out, and and go do your thing. You're allowed 30 minutes for lunch and 30 minutes for 2 breaks each day, otherwise you're expected to be beating keys constantly and the more time you spend away from your computer, the more time it looks like you took to do a report causing your line counts to go down and earns you less PTO.

We are monitored and kicked off after 2 minutes at my place of employment. All keystrokes monitored and they do not seem to appreciate the use of extra productivity software.

Anything New/up-to-date On MedScribe, FL ?

Archives are divided -- half happy and treated well and doing the work they expected to do, paid on time, good benefits.    Other half got jerked around a bit, given different kinds of work than expected, said line counts are incorrect, missed a couple of paychecks (which is strange since they do direct deposit - maybe they didn't back then.)  Thanks. ...
