Don't know if it will do any good but I just completed it. Glad they did not put a character cap on reason for not recommending HIM cause my answer was quite lengthy.

I don't do surveys, especially about income. - just saying. S/M

Are you kidding? They cannot do a thing, they are not really anomymous as they have your IP address when you comply, and my personal business is jsut taht MY PERSONAL BUSINESS.

Watch how many surveys you get once you do it. These survey people are paid by the hit and/or completed survey and sell IP addresses to others. Times have changed, hello internet. Most surveys are a business and that's as far as it goes. Look that up.

(By the way - company board? why?)

Everyone really should take this - survey

It was very interesting and you don't give your exact income, just a ballpark. At the very end is a section where you can vent. My income has so drastically decreased in the last 10 years it is not even a little funny, from about $4000 a month to $1000 a month (if I'm lucky). I also put a statement in there about keeping American jobs and American money in America. I hope more MTs do participate in this.

American jobs in America. - oldie

One reason the jobs are leaving is all the regulations on USA companies. I asked my Senator, Mark Warner (who is up for re-election by the way) if the regs from the ACA apply to Indian companies that employ more than 50 US citizens and was told they do not. When I mentioned that this caused our jobs to go to India, the guy said he thought it was a good thing. He said "It's good for globalization." There you have it. I don't know what these guys are thinking.

Done here also. - nm

On the Advance for HIM web site there is a salary survey from 2014. On the graph of average salaries, MTs were the lowest (even below billers) with average salary of just over 29,000. Coders made over 49,000. Pretty interesting ...

Advance Magazine 2009 Salary Survey
Dec 17, 2009

It contains some very interesting information and is well worth the read. Just for instance, approximately 35% of MT respondents reported earning $35K or above. and 23.8% report $0 to 20K. Home workers across the board reportedly made slightly more than facility workers. Worth noting is wage levels for coders and cancer registrars since our field may well evolve to include both coding and data abstraction duties, as well as the issue of credentialing. (BTW, my company, ...

AAPC 2012 Salary Survey Results
Nov 05, 2012

I am a member of AAPC and just received and reviewed AAPC's 2012 Salary Survey Results. You must be a member to read the survey. Because of the alarming wage decline as a medical transcriptionist, I decided to become certified as a coder and AAPC certification can be achieved sooner than AHIMA certification. I took AAPC's online course in February, achieved the CPC-H certification in September and have an apprentice designation. I am now searching for employment. According to th ...

Informatics Salary Versus Coder Salary
Jan 15, 2013

Hello Everybody.  First, let me say I have gotten a lot of good advice from this board in the past few years.  I have been encouraged to go back to school, am currently enrolled in Andrews for coding, and am looking to the future to obtain a degree to further advance myself in the field. I am very strongly considering WGU's Informatics course. I think this will be a good fit for me, especially considering this program also includes many IT certifications and I have always been ...

I am currently making 42,000.00 a year in medical transcription.  Am I really going to make much more than that  if I get an AA degree in medical coding ?  I am wondering if school is a waste.  My daughter says that an entry level job for me will only pay in the 30's and if thats the case, I think I should stay with transcription.  I am 50 years old and just a bit scared of whats to come. ...

I found this very interesting in regard to a study done that shows the American worker has no idea the disparity between his salary and his CEO's salary.  This is from the The Boston Globe on 04/28/2014:What does it take to become the most overpaid executive in Massachusetts? Or, more to the point, how much does it take? The answer is a little bit north of $29 million. Scribes - Starting Salary
Mar 30, 2010

I do medical transcription for a local specialty practice.  They are transitioning to EHR and gave notice to their MTs that they would be cutting back on their MT needs starting next week.  Today, the office mgr. called and asked if I would be interested in a Scribe position.  In short, I am.  The manager would like to learn my salary requirements.  I am thinking of asking to start at $10/hour.  Does that seem reasonable.  N.B. I've been sending out resumes and cover letters as much as I can and reading lots of forums trying to get a feel for what to look for in a good company.
