I have an interview with MD-IT - curious

Posted: Jun 02, 2011

I have an interview with MD-IT and wondered about some posts in the archives that are quite recent that stated there has been a lack of work and layoffs with no warning.  I am wondering whether I should even bother interviewing.  I am looking for a new job because of lack of work, not wanting to walk into another similar situation.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

I was laid off with no warning - mt

then they called me and wanted me to come back. I agreed, only cuz I didn't have anything else, told me they had to do some switching around on accounts and would let me know when they wanted me to start. Never heard back, emailed them last week to see what was going on, they said they didn't have enough work right now.

No way.. don't do it.. especially Boulder office! - Bunch of Idiots

You wouldn't believe the favoritism there. And the accounts are awful and they are leaving left and right. lack of work is rampant. I finally quit. Couldn't take it anymore.

Favoritism - KHMT

I believe it. Many accounts are on VR but a bunch are not. Some accounts assign work to MTs but many have open pools. When confronted about the lack of work, you're assured the accounts are open & favoritism is impossible. Sometimes you are even told there IS work, but you are looking right at the screen & nothing is there. Here's an example from about a month ago: Day 1, 0 jobs in pool. Day 2, 75+ jobs suddenly show up (all are 35-60 hours behind TAT). Where were these jobs Day 1 if they are more than a day late (esp. when you checked in throughout the day & there was nothing)? Now on day 2 you have these jobs that obviously were there and are now late. Why? Did an employee (as opposed to IC) call in sick? Favoritism? You make the call. In addition to losing work to VR, it "seems" favoritism amongst those left doing actual transcription DOES occur, but then this is only one division (CO), so you know...

Doesn't depend on division anymore - MissouriMT

Check out posts on Louisville, Boulder, Portland, Dallas. I worked MO, my sister-in-law TX. They buy companies that keep their MTs, so there isn't new work. Barely any work all week, but on the weekends there was work, some past due, as if whoever was getting the work didn't work weekends and didn't finish. We grabbed the work fast like vultures. Same w/my sis-in-law in TX. Tired of leftovers on weekends, I did VR. Supp pays more after curve but really doesn't, no matter how they spin it. I was an asst ed for a med journal until I moved to MO w/hubby and had kids, which paid a decent salary. Editing VR for MD-IT gets you MUCH less than working at WalMart. If VR is the future, then pay salary or decent hourly wage, prod pay is a ripoff. We both quit! :)

It depends on what office you actually work out of. I love my job, have a fantastic crew I work with, always have plenty of work. Have heard NOTHING about anyone being laid off.

So be sure to ask what office it's for.

hiring process - BeenThereMT

MD-IT seems to post a lot of different ads for various jobs with different platforms and specifications. Maybe that is why they have problems keeping up with things.

I took their test and apparently passed. I spoke with the first level person, had a job offer including pay, details about the job, platform, account, company history - quite extensive. In followup, I was informed that another person would contact me on a specific date. This did not occur.

Their loss. I applied to 4 companies and had 4 job offers, and although they were sitting at the top for my consideration, I chose to go with a company that was more gracious, even more willing to negotiate with me, and obviously had more respect for my experience and abilities.

Best of luck to all out there looking for a decent company to work for. We all have different needs. None of the companies are perfect, but hopefully each of us can find one that is a good fit.

In the same boat - curious

Thank you so much for the informative input, as I normally do not post on this board because of all the negativity, but just had to this time. I am sort of in the same boat you were, so have kind of put them out of mind. They sounded good, but lack of more response is what turned me off.

any contact yet? - BeenThereMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Have you had any more contact from MD-IT?

I find it rude to have gone through submitting an application, then their extensive skills assessment and transcription test on-line, had an offer with a lot of details about the account, discussed company history, received information about their benefits, and then they do not follow through.

The company has since advertised for a different position. They seem to advertise constantly.

If I had not been offered a position, with details, I would not be annoyed. But our time has been wasted, and I truly get annoyed about rudeness in business or personal situations.

By the way, their loss.

recent experience with this company - Been Around MT

I recently went through all the hoops applying for a job with MD-IT. I passed their extensive tests. I had a job offer. Then had no further contact. I eventually had contact that indicated that although my qualifications were adequate, they did not need me for the position, but I was welcome to contact them if I saw another ad. Really? And I would spend more time going through this process again? In the meantime, I have seen a couple of their ads, all of which I would be qualified for.

I suspect this company or some of their regional offices are quite disorganized. If that is how they manage the hiring process, I can't imagine what they would be like to work for.

As MTs, We Should Actually Interview The Companies!
Mar 03, 2010

If you are an MT with 10 or more years experience (actually a requirement with 1 company), and you are testing and interviewing, consider this.  When you do your research on a company that you are applying with, print all the negative posts such as "horrible platform, hardly ever any work, pay is slow, they offshored my account, VR problems, etc., etc."  If you score perfectly on your test and have good recommendations, land an actual interview, we should address these concer ...

FutureNet Interview

Hi group!  I have a job interview with Rita at Futurenet tomorrow.  The reason I am looking is I am really tired of constantly running out of work because my company over hired and now we transcriptionists are just out of luck!  I am in my 4th year with my current job and suddenly can barely hit $100 a day.  This is really sad when there is no loyalty to their employees.  Now from what I have been reading Futurenet is the same???  I read from this group how they run ...

Transcribing An Interview
Jul 14, 2010

I am doing some side work transcribing a research interview, and was wondering your opinions.  One of the respondents in the interview panel is ESL.  Her grammar is very often incorrect.  I asked them when I got the project if they wanted the transcription verbatim, and she said "yes, let's leave it true to form."  I had asked because the previous work had a lot of "like" and "you know" in it, and transcribing every utterance was actually really hard.  ...
