Good companies out there??? - steph1

Posted: Jan 06, 2012

Are there truly any good companies out there??? I can't begin to tell you how many I have been through in the last couple of years. I finally thought I found a good home with JLG, been with them since August and for the most part been pretty content. Then, we got bought out and guess by who, MQ! Now I have been with MQ before, twice! And both times leaving because I was not happy with their CHANGES! And here I am once again grandfathered in due to the buy out.

I was hired on part-time which is all I could do at the time because I was working another part-time, which BTW fell by the wayside as the company went under. I have since wanted to go full-time since November and have asked repeatedly and was finally told to wait until after the new year (due to the changes taking place with MQ under control now) which I once again reminded them I would like to do this ASAP.  Problem is my e-mails continue to go ignored. I have tried calling and no response either. I am seriously thinking of jumping ship AGAIN!

I am not sure what to do at this point? I just want to find a good home and land. I have done IC and loved it, but also employee status as well. I find I like IC better with the flexibility so even if I were to go employee I would still like to find something with flexibility.  I have been doing this for almost 20 years, this is all I know and it is not feasible at this point to even consider a career change nor do I really want to.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions appreciated.

Thank you!

MT usually dont tell so MTSO is not flooded with resumes - and so their work doesnt dry up to overhires. nm

Well, actually, if they are a great MTSO, they wouldn't overhire, regardless. sm - Colorado MT

However, I do understand the logic behind it. I have worked PT for a small MTSO for a couple of years now and she is terrific. I would go FT if she had enough work, and I would never post the name of the company here. I feel a bit selfish sometimes, but as others have pointed out, you have to protect yourself nowadays because no one else will look out for you but you.

So where in CO do you live? I live in CO also nm - mqmt

and wondered. Don't know many MTs in our area except for the few I met when I worked at Medifax. Glad to know someone is near!

Selfish - just me

Steph1: I hear ya loud and clear, but don't expect help from folks here. They are busy covering their own A**es to keep employed. Contact me via email and I will share a couple of contacts with you.

Are you kidding me?? Covering my own *** to keep - employed?? You better beleive it SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Selfish?? Hardly. I am putting my family's welfare first. You really think I should tell you my good MTSO even though it could put my own income at risk. You must be very young. That is not being selfish, it is called self-preservation.

Crazy to think me selfish cause i want to keep my - job. What a foolish thing to say. nm

If it is selfish to want to keep my job when jobs - are scarce, guilty as charged! sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Most of the "great" MTSOs hire on referrals from their current MTs so best bet is find an MT friend who likes their job and let them know you are looking for work. As with every industry, the best jobs often are never advertised. ;)

Yep, I'm selfish...knocked myself out for 2 years waiting to get on - Found the perfect little MTSO thru my own research

[ In Reply To ..]
I feel that it was my hard work and perserverance that got me on at the perfect little MTSO for me, and I'm sorry, but if refusing to blast their name all over these boards after all of MY hard work to find them makes me "selfish" to some, so be it.

I look on it as self-preservation and I worked darned hard and waited a long time to get on. No way I'm sharing the name...If I could find them and patiently wait for an opening, I feel others have the exact same opportunities I did and can do the same.

It's my little "treasure" that I excavated from 100s of MTSOs and I'm going to keep it my little secret.

You are not selfish - Anon

I once recommended a company here and even helped a person from this board get a job there. What a mistake. Although she presumably had worked for 25 years as a MT, she did a lousy job, she was fired, and I looked like an idiot to my MTSO, which I love. So yes, I have a wonderful MTSO, but I jeopardized a great job at 9.5 cpl by trusting that someone could do the job. Never again.
I've had similar experiences with people who said they had 15-20 years' experience - but were really awful MTs
[ In Reply To ..]
I remember one who supposedly had 15 years of experience. She didn't make it the first 30 minutes, wasn't even able to complete one simple report. They started her out on an easy one. She walked out. I don't know where that 15 years of experience was all about, but that taught me a lesson.

Nothing selfish about it. Most people only refer people they know - if they know their work is good

[ In Reply To ..]
I wasn't involved in the other messages on this topic, but I would never consider referring strangers. I would only refer someone if I knew their character, work ethics, and if their work is really good. I think that shows respect to your employer. It doesn't waste their time.

Scroll down for a previous discussion, with some names of companies (link below). I posted on there too. I'm one of those not afraid to share that I like where I am (MxSecure). I agree that if someone is afraid their company is going to immediately overhire just because they receive resumes, I wouldn't consider them a great company anyway.

Philippines? How is your work quality? Do you get good dictators?

They have a division in the Phillipines. - not the op

[ In Reply To ..]
Their production managers are all in the Phillipines as well as some of the IT people and I think they have done some restructuring and a few other "management" people are now in the Phillipines.

I worked there for a little while and it was a good company, extremely nice people, good benefits, plenty of work. I left for an in-house job and have regretted it ever since.

On thing I liked was that there was ALWAYS somebody to contact on IM if you had a question and if they didn't know the answer, they would find out for you right away.

re. MX and their Philippine connection - MXMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, they have a lot of support positions in the Philippines even though the headquarters is still in Scottsdale, AZ. Yes, all of their production people are now based in the Philippines, but after working with them for many years, and having worked for other MTSOs, I can say this Philippine Production team is the nicest, most helpful and accessible production staff I've every worked with. There is almost always someone an IM or email away to assist you, but they don't bother if you keep your work within TAT (unless there's a good reason). I love being left alone to do my job and having excellent backup resources/team available if I need them. It's really a win-win.

Yes, we can blame companies who offshore because our wages get crappier each year, but I am telling you this production team is top rate and so much better than any U.S. team I've worked with. I've been a union steward in the past (with AT&T) and it does feel weird to work for a company who hires overseas for a portion of what we earn here, but why should we hold this against them in this competitive industry? It's like buying products made in China; I don't like doing that, but it's the way life is nowadays.

And to the posters who don't want to share their "good" companies with the rest of us MTs, I understand your motivation, but we're here to share info. If you have a good position and you know in your heart you do a good job for the company, why don't you feel secure in your employment? I am completely okay about telling people that I like my MTSO. I have worked there 6-7 years and I don't think if MXSecure gets 1000 apps tomorrow, that I will be anything but happy. They're not going to get rid of someone if they're doing a good job. If you're afraid your company will over-hire, they can't be that good of a company to start with...just my opinion.

Reply to good companies out there. - Wondering 2

[ In Reply To ..]
You might want to try Allegiant Transcription Services...google them for contact info. They are out of Southern Indiana. I worked there for 2-1/2 years. Always had work. Had to quit because I took a chance on another company that paid more. Tried to go back, but they do not take you back if you leave even with a 2-week notice.

All in all, the doctors were medium-level dictators, no ESLs, work was usually there even over Christmas and New Year's, and they did not, at that time, micromanage.

Now I know why... - steph1

I rarely come to this board anymore! It was a pretty straightforward question, and I guess I got pretty straightforward answers, but geesh don't you think "those companies" that overhire are going to overhire regardless of the source??? Do you really think that by holding back a name you are going to stop this??? I didn't expect anyone to vouch for my work ethics as of course none of you know my work ethics, but just wanted a few names with good reputations. Not sure if they still exist! I thought this was a board of sharing positive information for other fellow MT's, but I guess I will stick to researching on my own and going with my gut as I have been doing. Thanks so much.

I have been working for an excellent company for seven years. Unfortunately, they were put out of business by a bunch of poachers from one of the national MTSOs. We were well paid and treated like gold. Now I'm scrambling trying to get applications out, but nearly every company I have considered has turned out to have at least two horror stories about not getting paid, being underpaid, mistreated employees, etc. Is anybody out there having a good experience? Does anybody have first-hand kno ...

Good Companies And Bad Ones..
May 21, 2015

I see posts on here from time to time complaining about employers.  Granted, some employers are worse than others and some are just plain bad.  However, I think we get so wrapped up in "ourselves" and what we want, that we forget to take a lot of things into consideration when we are up on our soapbox in a public, yet "anonymous" forum.  Let's just get it straight here - there are no "perfect" companies -- just like there are no "perfect" individuals - but there are some comp ...

Are there any good MT companies out there any longer that actually pay something that we can live on?  I know all about the "if you want to earn more, work more" deal but honestly, the pay has depreciated so much you would have to work 12 hours a day to make what I used to make in 8.  Didn't go to school and get into this field of work 15 years ago to make less than a waitress.  Any good companies out there? ...
