For the MT who got Mayo callback for interview - we are waiting to hear

Posted: Mar 20, 2015

about how you managed that feat. What are your qualifications that set you apart from all of us who also applied and heard nothing or got the sorry letter?

not me - have moved on

World does not revolve around the Mayo Clinic.

If 25+ yr and 16 of that in QA isn't good enough - REJECTEDTOO

[ In Reply To ..]
then BYE! They will probably get laid off soon anyway. Mayo just went to Epic or is about to as did my in-house job and they laid off half the staff and more to come since Epic. There was a HUGE reduction in workflow and we were fighting for work every day after Epic. Good luck to Mayo MTs is all I can say.

I have 40 years of experience, so I was disappointed to get the Dear MT letter, sm - Ouch

[ In Reply To ..]
but nowadays, experience does not seem to count for much, so apparently I did not meet whatever criteria they have, even enough to merit an interview. As I posted below, it kinda bruises the ego a bit, but then again, in all fairness, it was nice of them to send a letter and let me know the status of things. Very few companies do that anymore. I have several jobs already, so I am okay. My feelings will heal. :-)

Maybe they didn't review all the applicants - and chose quickly. (NM)

Not enough good jobs and too many overqualified MTs.

What a waste of talent, especially you veterans.

Maybe.... - Tired

[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe she or he was one of the persons that got outsourced before and now they are bringing them back for whatever reason. Maybe she or he "knew" somebody there. It's hard to tell and the reason or reasons we all were rejected are probably things we cannot control, like thousands of applicants for one job, etc. and maybe they just randomly picked a few.

overqualified - radmt

What I have found is that when some companies are not looking to pay "optimal" pay, us veterans are actually overqualified. Some of our credentials are intimidating to companies out there and at the time, they may not be offering "what our experience deserves" so-to-speak. When I was supervisors, that's what my CEO always told me in hiring people.. The ones with the most experience are usually going to want the most pay and sometimes their "budgets" do not allow for such. Not getting a position, isn't always because of negative factors.

Overqualified - Old Pro

[ In Reply To ..]
I seem to see things differently than your CEO. If I had a super-qualified person with a lot of experience, I would hire her or him. A lot of people have all kinds of qualification in addition to MT as well. I have seen people hired who cooked like Julia Child and others who spoke several languages. While you neither have to cook (in a gourmet manner or otherwise) or speak anything but English to work as an American MT, some bosses would be put off by someone with mega-qualifications, even if it were in a different field. This is true. As to hiring dream MT candidates, I would have (and did) gladly hire someone who was skilled in all fields of not only acute care, but also rays and path. I am sorry, but I have always felt that the "you're overqualified" spiel to be baloney. To me, it says that the person was ambitious enough to better themselves. I feel so sorry for everyone job-hunting, am glad to be an old retired lady. I do wish all of you the very best of luck.

Why do you think she owes you or anyone any explanation? - curious. NM

Just common courtesy - Toni

A lot of companies are like that. I at least send an email and don't leave people hanging - just common courtesy which this field sorely lacks.

The issue was... - sm

In a post below, someone actually received a call from the Mayo Clinic for an interview. Many of us applied and were turned down (including myself). Envy, anger, whatever it was (sorry to be harsh, but it is what it is), kicked in and some MTs didn't like it. They should be upset with the Mayo Clinic and not take it out on the MT as was obviously shown.

Makes one wonder if others had received a call, would they advertise it also? Then what?

Confusion About The Mayo Clinic
Feb 23, 2015

Does anyone know what the latest status of the Mayo Clinic is, with regards to medical transcriptionists?  I remember they laid off something like 118 MT's last summer, and I believe someone here said they outsourced their work to Amphion.  So today I happened to look on the Mayo Clinic homepage under Jobs, and according to that, it says they're hiring "telecommute" MT's.  I can't find any mention of an MTSO... it appears to be a Mayo Clinic ad, not an MTSO ad ...

As MTs, We Should Actually Interview The Companies!
Mar 03, 2010

If you are an MT with 10 or more years experience (actually a requirement with 1 company), and you are testing and interviewing, consider this.  When you do your research on a company that you are applying with, print all the negative posts such as "horrible platform, hardly ever any work, pay is slow, they offshored my account, VR problems, etc., etc."  If you score perfectly on your test and have good recommendations, land an actual interview, we should address these concer ...

Transcribing An Interview
Jul 14, 2010

I am doing some side work transcribing a research interview, and was wondering your opinions.  One of the respondents in the interview panel is ESL.  Her grammar is very often incorrect.  I asked them when I got the project if they wanted the transcription verbatim, and she said "yes, let's leave it true to form."  I had asked because the previous work had a lot of "like" and "you know" in it, and transcribing every utterance was actually really hard.  ...
