Our team leader emailed us today to say that they are looking into a new platform called Emdat. Does anybody have any experience using this software that they can share? Thank you so much. Kim.

I have been working on this program for almost two years. At first, I found it rather slow and cumbersome, but as time went on it, I learned to adjust. It has a fairly decent spell check, but not the best. If you make up an expander, when you make it up it shows up in the report but on the next line. Now there are different versions of this program, so you may not experience that. I was used to a pretty decent program before I started with the company that uses this, but I like the job so much better, it makes up for it. Everything is a trade off it seems. One thing, I wish it were a bit more Word based; like capitalizing after a period, but again, you will get used to it.

Go to options and then choose spelling & typing options. You can check the box for capitalize as you type. I too have worked on a program I liked better and while Emdat isn't bad, there's just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on that makes it difficult to get a great line count on. I've even used it with different companies and had the same issue so it's not really the dictator, etc. But it has improved with each upgrade, so hopefully it'll just keep getting better. :)

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely change that up to capitalize. I can get a decent line count, depending on the dictators and 200 lines per hour isn't too hard to obtain, IF, I have decent reports. I do clinic notes and sometimes there is a run of them at 25 seconds each, so that is rather nonproductive. Also the demographics can be a pain. I don't know why they can't scan, but maybe they do and the account I am on doesn't do that. Again, every place is a bit different. It used to be if I didn't like software or hours or dictation, I would just quit and move on, but not these days. I feel like I am hanging by a thread and that is why I have to have two jobs and I only want to work part time1

And I know what you mean - the shorter reports aren't my favorite either! I feel like you described my personal thoughts lately as far as the work situation in general. It used to be so easy to find a new company and move forward but I too only do MT part time now and I actually have two part-time positions too. And work at each place fluctuates quite a bit so I'm lucky to have those two to choose from.

I agree about the demographics on Emdat too. This also depends on the company. I've used Emdat with 3 different companies and only one actually uses the demographics that get pulled into the report. This is new to me and really helps - the info pops up as soon as I put in the patient name and I can just choose a DOS. It's a time saver.

I always have a great line count, over 7000 lines a week, but it can depend on how much demographics you have to do yourself. The more the dictator enters, the easier it makes your job.

You can use different expansion programs with it, but it also has one included in the platform you can use.

You should be aware that some companies use an Emdat feature called QT lines. You can enter a key combination and a window pops up to select a template to add to a report. Some companies pay less per line (as low a 1 cpl) for templated (Qualified Text) work. Others pay half the regular transcription line rate and others pay everything at the same rate. It will depend on how your company decides to handle it. Mine does not pay less, so I make really decent money.

I work for one company that pays less for them and I thought that was bad until I found a company that pays NOTHING for them! Hopefully I'll come upon one like yours that pays the same either way eventually, but for now I'm just happy to have a job that otherwise works for me. :)

I am thinking about taking a position using an EMDAT platform. This is not a big company, just a nice woman who works from home and employs a number of transcriptionists. I have never worked in a platform, so really have no clue what this entails. My biggest concern is being able to use SpeedType, as I have thousands of entries and rely on it heavily to do my work. I just installed this on my computer. Wow, I was dumfounded. I have trained to learn Escription, DocQScribe, Pscribe and Chartnet. Hi...in spite of prior negative remarks about this platform, in my opinion it can't be easier. So simple and convenient. I have never worked for a company that uses a platform before, always an FTP site and word, so this is new to me. Is it hard to learn, easy to count line count, etc.?? I am looking for a way to search for terms and/or phrases across all reports using the Prior Report feature in the EMDAT/Inscribe program. Would somebody be willing to tell me a little bit about EMDAT? I have never used the software and from what I've heard, it is very simple and productive. I find it to be just the opposite. I am currently using EMDAT as my platform. My company recently upgraded from 4.95 to 4.96. I keep getting a Microsoft error every time I try to upgrade. I called EMDAT, and they told me it was because I use a broadband Satellite internet connection??? They can't help me. Now what? Is it possible to take my PC to my friend's place where she has a different internet connection (cable) and upgrade from there? I need this done ASAP for work. Thanks for your help! ...
