I got the master's and doctorate because of MT - MT Posted: Aug 30th, 2017 - 10:45 am In Reply to: Even my family - - just wondering
I went back to school many years ago when this profession was going downhill to get out of it. So, I did my job as an MT, went to school while taking care of my son. After my master's I could not get a job because my major was not marketable (as a woman) so I was told by the school to go for doctorate to teach at the university level. My first year I received 4.0 doctorate GPA and then my student loans ran out. The school wanted me to pay for out of pocket to continue and I kept typing but with loss of student loans I had to start typing extra to make up for the small amount of living expenses lost. So, long story short I had to stay in MT and take extra jobs to make ends meet and the master's degree, a worthless piece of paper, the doctorate never finished and too many gray hairs to count. Back 10 years ago it was a good idea to go back to school. Now not so much as most degrees unless medical doctor and lawyer do not pay enough AND sadly at our age and if a woman there are many problems getting a job. So, that's the story. Long and boring I know.
