It doesn't matter what you think you are supposed to be paid for, in this industry it doesn't work that way. I, personally, don't care if someone wants to log into their time card while they read their emails and other tasks. I would merely point out that you are undermining yourself in regard to stats and pay, if you do. Do that enough, and you might not have a job anymore. You are only kidding yourself if you think it means you are not doing that "on your own time." You are NOT getting paid for it.
