I left MT at age 60 and took AHIMA courses, got certified as a CCS. I really like coding. I was able to integrate all that I had learned from 30+ years of MT. But you do have to get your foot in the door. If you are affiliated with a hospital,approach them to make the transition, maybe starting with outpatient or ED coding.
