Many years ago when I worked at a hospital, I had access to the administration software (I was working alone nights and needed it). One of the options it had was to eliminate any character, number, or keystroke from the line count, in addition to blanks.
I am always suspicious of MM doing that to us. How would we know if they suddenly did not give us line count credit for m's or n's or anything else. If hospital software could do that in the 1990s, I imagine they can do it to us now.
